Is there a way to drag&drop copy my tasks/profiles over to my computer? I'd be fine with doing that every once in a while, instead of creating a complicated task for that purpose.

This is what I tried so far in order to backup my tasker creations:
  • Export Description/XML In Email --> Produces an email with a looooong body of xml code. What am I ever going to do with that?
  • Export XML to SD --> When I do this, tasker responds "Done." However, I don't seem to have an SD card on my Nexus 6. I just have an "Internal Storage". There don't seem to be any xml backups anywhere.
  • Look for profiles and tasks stored in my devices Internal Storage, in order to copy them to my computer. --> Cant find anything. The folder Tasker seems to contain hardly any (visible/hidden/system) files.

Hi,

your Internal Storage is the SD-Card. This is a little bit confusing in Android.

Goto Menu->Data->Backup change the filename if you like and tap on the Tasker symbol in the upper left corner. Done. You should find the xml-file in Tasker/configs/user/.

Alternatively Tasker can do auto-backups. Menu->Preferences->Misc. Stored in Tasker/configs/auto.

Hope this helps.

Juergen.

Thanks for quick feedback, Juergen.

It seems to be very different on my Android 5.1 Nexus 6.

When I do Menu->Data->Backup, I don't have any option of chosing a directory or changing the filename. It just says immediately "Data backup to SD completed." I cannot find that backup file anywhere in my Internal Storage. Theres nothing in my tasker folder except 3 empty subfolders: .icn, cache and userguide. Certainly no Tasker/configs/user path anywhere. Yes, hidden items and system files are set visible.

Also, no Tasker/configs/auto folder anywhere. So auto-backups also seems useless.

How can I spot that backup file to copy it to my computer?

regards,
Robert

Hm, that's strange. Maybe you can search with your file browser for "backup.xml", that is the default name...

Your phone is not rooted?

Thanks! I found the file userbackup.xml in the Tasker folder by looking for it with my file browser (Astro) on my phone. So strange that when I browse my phone via Windows Explorer and USB, most of the content in the Tasker folder does not show. No, my phone is not rooted. Thanks for your help again - I think I got everything I need with that backup file now.

Juergen, is it possible you're using the the current Tasker 4.7 beta? I believe the backup options/folders are different compared to the play store Tasker 4.6 version.

Not the beta but version "4.6u2/u3" (at least that's what it says in the What's New section when I select my Tasker app in the play store).

Yes, I'm using the beta version.

Next Version:
improved local backup/restore

That explains the differences...

Thank you, Wayne.
