Hi Lee,

Winamp has released it's Android version and it put an icon in the
status/notification bar. Tasker's status/notification bar icon should
be changed to other Tasker'isque icon. Currently, it's widely known as
Winamp's icon even when I first started using Tasker.

- widely known to winamp users maybe, not to me
- the icons aren't identical
- I was here first
- I'd be surprised if you could trademark a generic symbol like a
lightning bolt anyway

But thanks for letting me know. I'll consider putting a preference in
for the status bar icon in case it disturbs people who have both apps
installed.

I be perfectly honest, I never connected the two icons myself I been
using Winamp for many years...

Happy with the ICON as it is ;)

While I realized how similar the icon looked to winamp (I used it for
years, though I now use foobar) when I first bought Tasker, it wasn't
until I installed the winamp beta that it bothered me having the two
next to each other.
I know you were first on the market, but seeing as tasker can "change
the Home icon for any application", having an way to change tasker's
own notification bar icon would be nice.

The fact that you consider including an option to support a small
percentage of users makes me glad I bought your app.
I also tried the hide icon option, but didn't like the look of an
empty space between two other icons on the notification bar.

As a longtime Winamp user, I can relate the flash icon to Winamp. I
don't think Tasker must change its icon, but if it does and has a
better icon in mind, I would applaud that. I secretly hope for a white
icon for black status bar.

I totally disagree. As Pent says, he was on Android first.

I am not going to rant that Pent must change the icon. What I would
like is to have a choice of status bar icons from the Preferences, in
order to differentiate better from Winamp for Android.

Sounds cool. When will the version of Winamp with this functionality be available? Did they let you know, when you asked them?

;-)

Your wish is granted next beta.

Although the choice is limited to the current built-in icons
unfortunately.

If you want to retouch the existing notification icon for a black
background
I'm happy to include it in the built-ins.

You gave an inch. Now we'll want a mile:

* Choose any icon anywhere as the Tasker icon
* Make it a setting, so Profiles can change it dynamically (this one
would actually be sorta cool)

Is it any wonder the todo list just keeps getting longer?

I'm partially pleased to say that Android doesn't allow it.

You don't need that anymore, now that you can't use any icon,
right ? :-)

OK,OK, I'll add Set Icon in the Tasker category sometime.

I'd second allowing a separate icon for each profile. I know
PhoneWeaver allows you to choose a separate icon for each profile but
Tasker is a much better program IMHO.

Sorry, what do you mean by 'allowing a separate icon for each
profile' ?

In PhoneWeaver the main icon is changed per active profile
So in each profile you can define an icon and when that profile
becomes active, the main notification icon is changed into that of the
profile

Ahhh.

We don't actually have profile icons, but the proposed Set Tasker Icon
action would allow
you to do what you like with it whenever you like.

I've been trolling for a while, but wanted to chime in and applaud the effort to add a "Set Tasker Icon" action. I went looking for it a while back and was disappointed to find it didn't exist.

Personally, I'd love to be able to have a profile that rotates out the icon (while the display is on) to indicate all active profiles. I don't even know if it's possible, but it'd be even sweeter if there was a way to fade between them so it wouldn't be too much of a distraction while doing other stuff. :)

As for icons, I'd be happy to help out by creating some.

Rotate: you can do that yourself when the new action arrives
Fade: not technically possible I believe

Unfortuntely, you can only use built-in icons (see the Android Issue
to
Support) sticky, and I can't just keep adding new icons as the APK
will
get too big.

Maybe I can create an icon library. Need to do some reading on Android development as I've really only done Windows Mobile in the past.

Did the "Set Tasker Icon" action get implemented?
