I've come up with a somewhat sophisticated power-saving system within Tasker. I can enter and exit my power-saving mode via the invocation of a couple off Tasker tasks. This all works fairly well for me.

I want to make use of some sort of visual indication as to whether or not my device is operating under my power-saving mode, and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do from within tasker to change the color of my status-bar icons. This way I could indicate whether my power-saving mode is active with a special status-bar icon color setting.

Any ideas as to how I might accomplish this within tasker? ... maybe via a plugin, perhaaps?

Thanks in advance.

I've no idea how you can change colours in the status bar, but as an alternate solution you can create a widget on your home screen and change the widget icon and label based on the status of your power savng. You can change widget icon and label within your power saving task by using the "set widget label" and "set widget icon" actions. The same widget can be associated to your power saving task, and be used as a manual toggle in addition to any automatic profile you may have...

Yes, thank you. I know I can use a widget. It' s just that I am rarely on my home screen, and the status area is visible to me under many more circumstances than the home screen is.

Anyway, I'm probably out of luck on this. Was just hoping against hope.

I thought of another possibility ...

Is there any way within Tasker can cause the notification light to turn on, perhaps with a specific color? ... maybe via a plug-in, perhaps?

If so, I could turn that light on with a certain color when I'm in my power-saver mode.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much.

yes, you can use Tasker to change the notification light color in two ways:
1. Action > Alert > Set Light > led:xxx
2. Find the LED class for your device and run a shell script to toggle it

however, you might want to reserve the notification LED light for other things, such as to differentiate incoming messages (different email accounts, whatsapp, fb messenger, etc.) incidentally, Tasker can help with this too using the approaches above

for your purposes, I suggest using Tasker to set a permanent notification on your status bar when the power saving mode changes. You can change the icon (image/color) in Tasker to reflect different power saving modes

If you have a Samsung device using Touchwiz, there is a plugin available. It's called Samsung LED Controller.

I might be missing something but why not just change a tasker notification Icon to show the status?  I will usually use a green one for on and the big red circle with the / through it for off.

Thank you very much to YT, Scott, and Rich.

As for the Tasker notification icon: in order to use it, I have to be running Tasker in foreground mode, and this defeats my power-saving purpose. Tasker seems to be less battery-intensive when I keep it in the background.

Another issue with the notification icon is that even if I decide to put Tasker in the foreground, under normal circumstances (i.e., when not in my custom Power-Saver mode) I would want to use the transparent icon that Tasker offers. If I do that, then changing the notification icon from within Tasker doesn't work. That icon-change task only seems to work if I choose any of the non-transparent Tasker icons as my default Tasker icon.

I tried the Alert->Set Light task. Sadly, it turns out that my device is not very friendly w/r/t setting that LED. When I do so via that Tasker task, the LED only appears when the lock screen is showing. Whenever I dismiss the lock screen after using that Set Light task, the LED turns off.

Does anyone know how to find the LED class for any given device?

Thanks again to all.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Samsung LED Controller app doesn't work with my device.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Relay, but Play Store doesn't consider my device to be compatible with that app and I can't even download it.

Oh well ...

Use a pc and chrome, use the download apk option, and side load it. Just because the developer didn't include your device, as long as it's touchwiz, there's a good chance it will work.

Thank you, but I'm running a custom ROM and a custom launcher (Nova), so there's no longer any Touchwiz on my device.

Maybe I missed something here but wouldn't the Tasker Notify LED action be idea for what he wants? I've tried all the color options on my stock S5 and all 9 of them work. That give you at least a half dozen colors to use. Plus the phone display can still be off.

I mentioned above that on my device, the Notify LED action doesn't do what I'd like. It only causes the LED light to be turned on when the lock screen is active. When I exit keyguard mode, the LED turns off when it has been set via Notify LED.

I'm sure this is some sort of ROM-specific or device-specific issue.

Oh ... I'm sorry. I confused "Notify LED" with "Alert->Set Light". However, I tried "Notify LED" now, and unfortunately, on my device it exhibits the same behavior I mentioned above: i.e., the light only shows up when the lockscreen is enabled. After dismissing the lockscreen, the LED turns off.
