Hi,

I'm wondering if there's a way to use Tasker as an alarm clock.  I stumbled upon this tutorial on how to create a Tasker action that sets a one-off alarm in a 3rd party app, but is it possible for Tasker itself to be an alarm app?  I currently use Alarm Clock Plus as my alarm app with a recurring alarm set to go off every weekday at 07:45 so it would be nice if Tasker were able to this.  But I don't know whether the Notify actions in Tasker support the type of notifications that a typical 3rd party alarm app displays (i.e. repeating ringtone of choice, ability to awaken the phone's display, dismissal of alarm notification, etc).

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks :).

I don't know about using Tasker to do the entire alarm clock function, but Gentle Alarm includes a Tasker plugin that allows some control over what alarm set or not. It might be worth a look before you get too deeply into creating your own.

Yes, Tasker can do anything!  OK, not quite.  ;)

Create a profile that triggers on a time event.  Set both the 'from' and 'to' times to the time you want your alarm to wake you up.  Set the associated task to do whatever you want when the alarm triggers.

I've done this very thing.  When my alarm triggers, I have Tasker play the Beatle's 'Good Morning', then lower the music volume a bit, say "Good morning", and then read me the weather forecast.  Lastly, I show a popup that says "OK" so I can turn the alarm off.

(This last bit I'll leave as an exercise for the reader.)

Technogeezer has a good start. I used it for a while, but it's a pain to change Times, and turn on and off. So I opted to just use my stock alarm.

Although one benefit I had setup is I used a NFC tag to shut off my alarm. Actually made me get out of bed in the mornings to shut off my alarm and blinking flash led.

Also you have another option. Check out autoalarm by joaomgcd. It performs tasks when your stock alarm goes off. Therefore if you want a weather forecast when you wake up, this is possible.

I use tasker to query certain times events need to happen the following day.

For example, how long I want to shower, eat breakfast or not, time spent reading morning paper or emails, etc. and then tasker takes the timeframes and works backwards to create a series of alarms to start the following day.

It uses the stock alarm app, but tasker handles the calculations and settings.

I agree with Scott, I started to make a tasker alarm clock but found I could accomplish all my needs with the Gentle alarm plug in. It has a tasker thread on it forum that is very helpful.

I do believe you could make a great alarm clock with tasker but it would require a fair amount of work and knowledge of tasker. However it would be a great learning tool to hone your tasker skills...
