I am wondering if using tasker I can open an audio recorder app and start recording at a specific time?
It looks like in the actions there is audio recording but the quality of recorded audio is much worse than recording an audio using a good audio recorder app.
For one, the volume of the recorder audio is too low using the tasker audio recording task.

I've used smart voice recorder in the past to record speech during sleep. After you push the start recording button, it'll only record when there's sound to record and skips silences automatically. You can use input>DPAD To push the start button after loading the app with tasker.

Task: Record audio
1. Open app smart voice recorder
2. Input>Dpad>right, once
3. Input>Dpad>left, once
4. Input>Dpad>right, once
5. Input>Dpad>press, once
6. Task>stop

Instead of going through input>Dpad everytime just copy and paste after youve made the first Dpad input and change the direction of the press.

Of course you need to figure out how to save the audio file before exiting the app so you don't lose it by killing the app when you're done recording.

Have fun!

You need Root for Input/Dpad.

Dpad

Simulate use of the Dpad or trackball. Useful for moving around and clicking controls in an application.

Only available on a rooted device.

USB Debugging probably needs to be enabled in Android's Developer Settings.

Start a new Task and name it.
Tap on the + sign at the bottom to enter action
first action is app>smart voice recorder.
Then follow my previous post regarding the other actions.
As Jay stated, you need root for Dpad, which I forget that some people using tasker do not have root.

And I played around with the voice recorder. When you kill the app in mid recording session, it saves a temporary file in the smartvoicerecorder folder. The next time you open up the app, it pulls up the temporary recording and continues to add to it if you start another recording again. If you open the app manually then you'd be able to save it as a file that can be used with other apps.

Thanks a lot guys. If I use the built in Audio Recording of Tasker, is there a way to increase its recording volume? when I listen to what is recorded the audio is very weak and volume is very low. I prefer not to root my phone.

You just need to try the app on your phone. It has great sensitivity for detecting silence/background noise vs speech and see what you hear. I'm not aware of a recording volume adjustment native to my phone. Perhaps someone else might know more. Perhaps another app would have a record volume adjustment.
