I've been searching for about 45 minutes and I can't find any recent information about sending an SMS with tasker over wifi.

I have a Nexas 7 and all I want to do is have it send an SMS reminder to my cell number when the battery gets below 20%. Do I need a plugin for Tasker or does it interface with another app like Google Voice?

Thanks.

Might be more a Nexus specific issue.

I have an LG that when connected to WiFi has system settings that allow a user to specify default actions made over WiFi. One option is send and/or receive SMS.

If this option exists on your Nexus (enable it), and it should be a matter of checking if your connected to WiFi, if battery is less than 20%, and then send a SMS which should automatically send over WiFi.

I'm pretty sure that Tasker will only use the messaging API, which is almost certainly absent on a Nexus 7 since it is a data-only device.

There's a plugin that lets you send messages through Google voice. I forget the exact name but the developer name is steelgirder I think.

Your carrier should have an email address that would do this. I'm with Verizon, for example, and to send a text message to a mobile phone via email, the email address is *MobilePhoneNumber*@vtext.com. I've never sent and email with Tasker but I think it can be done.

Actually, I think the settings you're looking at are more specific to your LG.  I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and Tab 10.1 both running Kitkat and neither have that option.

I found that plugin. It's got a pretty low review score, and apparently once you've installed it, you can only remove it by doing a hard reset. I'm not that desperate yet. Haha.

Tasker will "compose" and email, but not send it. I'm not entirely sure why not.

It looks like I have a solution.

Pushbullet is a free app that will synchronize notifications between devices and your Chrome browser. Any notification that Tasker produces will show up across multiple devices.

Hmm ... You need it to have that extra half a star to not be consider a low review score?

Eh seriously? that's fucked up :/ that can't be right. Reviews don't always mean something's bad some people are just goons and 1 star because they don't understand what there doing or because they failed to read a description were it says its a plugin and requires another app.

This is the one I was looking at.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mdrtools.apps.gvintegration.free

The reviews are poor. Especially if you look at the 1-star vs 5-star reviews.

What you did here, is you assumed you knew which of the many SMS GV plugins I was talking about and you were wrong. Since you based a wise-ass remark on incorrect information, you did an excellent job of making yourself look like a fool.

You did, however, show me an application that I was previously unaware of. So I guess you broke even.

No need for name calling, here. You did the same thing. Matt R said to use the one by Steelgirder. That was pretty specific. You chose a different one.

To clarify, I said if this option exists... genius.
