Obvious things first, just to make sure:
Are you certain Tasker is enabled (that little "On" button in the little corner?)
Is it installed on your internal storage? It's okay if you symlinked it to your SD's second partition using Link2SD (to put it up simply, android still thinks it's installed on its internal storage so that's cool), but you should not move it to the SD using native methods (e.g. app2sd).

If it is, try the following:
Press the Menu Button > Preferences > Monitor > Check "Run In Foreground"
This will:
1- Make sure Tasker won't get killed;
2- You'll actually know if Tasker is running by looking at your status bar.

If it still doesn't work, take a look at the logcat at startup (I'd advise using your PC for that; using the adb command: "adb shell logcat". It might show something.

It works just fine after I run it one time, but it's too annoying to do this every time my phone is powered on or restarted. I have an HTC Wildfire S, model A510e,  Android 2.3.7, CyanogenMod 7.2 and using Startup Manager I see this applications enabled to run at start-up: alarm clock extreme, backlight switch pro, birthdays, brightness manager, call recorder pro, hancent sms, hide caller id, link2sd, note everything pro, orientation control, prepay widget, quick torch, root call blocker pro, smart app protector, supersu and wave launcher (the disabled ones are 1tap cleaner pro, adaway, briliant quotes, im+ pro, smanager, and titanium backup pro). I never had any similar problem with other apps, I have never used task killers or something like that and the available memory it's always more than half (now for example, there is 178Mb used and 216Mb free). There is something that can interfere with Tasker? Thanks.

Tasker is enabled. After the phone starts I just use the Tasker icon to run it, the applications opens and than I just use Back or Home button. That's it and the Tasker starts working just fine, including the status bar notification. Untill I'm not doing this, there is no Tasker service running.
It's always set to "Run In Foreground", but also doesn't help.
I'm an advanced Android user and I have tried many different options, but with no results (including using default installation, on internal or external storage, linked, converted as a system app, etc).
I will post her a logcat when I will have time to do it.
Thanks.

a) you're using an app called Startup Manager to control what starts
up
b) Tasker is not listed as enabled
c) Tasker is not starting up

It's a good chance that point (a) or (b) are the problem.

Tasker is listed and enabled to startup. Sorry for not mentioning it on the list provided above.

Anyway, I have found what it's wrong with Tasker on my phone. It doesn't start at boot if the screen timeout is lower than 1 minute. I have noticed that when I was getting a logcat and the screen was set to be allways on (default being set to 30 seconds): Tasker was starting at boot with no issue. After that I have reboot my phone several times and the result is allways the same: Tasker doesnt's start at boot if the screen timeout is set to 30 seconds, but it works just fine if I set the screen timeout to a minimum 1 minute. Maybe it's because I have many apps runing at startup, but if the screen is going off before Tasker is runing, it will not start anymore.

If there is a Tasker developer or someone else willing to test this issue, please do this by setting the screen timeout to a lower value (5 or 10 seconds) or just by turning the screen off as soon as the phone starts and the tasker is not running yet (using the short press of the power button). Thanks.

What's the symptom of it not running ? The icon is missing from the
status bar ?

There is no Tasker service runing, there is no icon on the status bar and no profile is executed.

Reading a logcat when Tasker fail to run at boot, I can see that the last information is:
"I/ActivityManager( 1287): Process net.dinglisch.android.taskerm (pid 3135) has died."

The entire logcat is attached to this message, please let me know if you can find what is wrong. Thanks.

It gets sent the boot signal, but there are no Tasker diagnostics (or
errors) in the log, did you enable Menu / Prefs /Misc / Debug To
System Log ? Better may be Debug To SD because there's a lot going on
at boot.

Thanks, that's what I wanted. It was still busy grindingly-slowly
initializing at the end of the log, I would guess it got killed by
Android for taking too long, but that doesn't fit with your 'works
fine if screen timeout higher' thing, and wasn't mentioned in the
system log.

Sorry, I'm at a loss. I'd like to get to the bottom of it but just
don't have the time. I would guess either your phone is just too busy
at startup or it's a peculiarity of your ROM/hardware combination.

I'm happy to offer a refund if you send me your purchase confirmation
privately.

Custom ROM ? Rooted ? Tasker version ? Tasker enabled (icon top left in colour not greyed out) ? What do you mean by
'can't get autostarted' ? The Tasker permanent notificaiton doesn't appear ?

Thanks for the reply!

I haven't rooted my phone. When I restart my phone, tasker doesn't start itself and activate a profile.

I have enabled the run in foreground.

I'm using MiUi 5 on my Xiaomi mi3.

Tasker version is 4.4u2

There is no tasker icon on restart of my phone in the top left

As there is no icon, I can't see the permanent notification in the notification bar.

Upon checking the logs, I saw a shutdown signal received by tasker. This made it not start, if I can put it like that.

So it starts if you enter and exit the UI after boot has completed ?

I'm not familiar with the ROM, but I presume it has some kind of startup manager which prevents apps starting background services on startup. Try browsing around settings maybe.

Perfect! That's exactly what happens. In the apps, MiUi adds an additional check (which is disabled by default) enabling has fixed the issue!

P.S

Thanks a ton Pete for the tip!

I have Xiaomi mi3 as well running MIUI 4.4.3
Tasker will not start after reboot, so, i have to run it manually.
It is allowed to start in Security->Permissions-> Auto-start management, but it doesn't help.
Any advice on how can i make to autostart will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

It must be a ROM setting or something you've done/prevented with root access (if the phone is
rooted).

I don't have that device or ROM, so can't suggest anything else.

Hello,

My installation of tasker does not launch any profiles after reboot. How can I fix this problem?
Some facts:
- I have purchased tasker.
- I cannot find the version number anywhere but it is linked with google play store for autoupdate.
- The main process net.dinglish.android.taskerm is running after reboot (listed under settings-apps-active: "1 process and 1 service 1,7 MB"
- The slider next to my profiles is on (blue color saying "I").
- My profiles do start if I launch the tasker UI.
- The Tasker Icon shows a yellow flash symbol (not gray).
- "Run in Foreground" is set in Tasker-Preferences-Monitor.
- Display timeout is set to 5 minutes (I have read the other posts).
- I have several other autostart apps working at reboot, such as WhatsApp, GSam Battery Monitor, Floatify, Avast Mobile Security, MyPhoneExplorer Client, which proves that autostart in general is not a ROM issue and is not blocked by any startup manager.
- To be sure, I have deactivated some apps which could interfere by the means of App Quarantine. Among these apps are Total RAM booster, Greenify, Clean Master. This way I hope I have verified that it makes no difference if these ar running or not.
- My device is a JiaYu S3, rooted, with a ROM which is very close to and based on the original (just language, google apps, TWRP)
- My Android version is 4.4.4, which I believe has an Aliyun core, because I would have to decodex before I could install XPOSED framework. In fact, my system is not decodexed and I XPOSED is not installed).
- Fact is, that I have no other issues with this smart phone to report. Hardware, Android Kitkat and all other apps work fine, just tasker is not starting up automatically.

Please could you help me.

Hello Pent,

After several reboots, here are my observations:

- In Android Settings / Security / Auto-start management Tasker in not listed as registered for auto-start. No apps are denied from auto-start.

- After reboot and after launching the Tasker UI manually, the log shows orange "Inactive"-records for profiles which were running at the time of onloading the system (right after confirming reboot but before reboot). Nothing else. No icon in the taskbar.

- I found two events at which the profiles start up:
Being in the Tasker UI,
1. at the moment when I touch the button for the Android task manager (the button between the Android menue and the Android return button)
2. alternatively, when I open any task in the task panel and press the triangle button to start the task.
In both cases all the profiles start up and run, and the Tasker icon shows up in the task bar.
The following records are added to the log (from bottom up):
1. Start Monitor (written in white)
2. Active Profilename (written in orange)
3. Start Task Service (white)
4. Running Taskname (violet)
5. Stop Task Service (white)

Therefore, just launching the UI does not help, only leaving the UI by using the task manager or running any task manually will start the monitor (don't know what it does) and subequently start all "pending" profiles.

Can you get a sense out of this?

I don't have that setting, but 'not registered for auto-start' sounds bad.

No 'Monitor Start' lines ?

If there are no Monitor Start lines then Tasker is simply not receiving a signal
from the OS to start up. Or it's crashing before it manages to start up, in which
case Android should show a warning about that.

Ok. I uninstalled and reinstalled Tasker and now its registered for autostart and working. I have no idea what caused the problem. Unfortunately I ve lost my profiles and tasks when uninstalling, luckily just experimental code. Thanks for your assistance.

You can do Menu / Data / Backup and Restore to save data over reinstalls.
