I can turn off Bluetooth but not back on, or toggle it.

When the task tries, you get a pop up with an Tasker icon on it that says "Bluetooth Action Failed".

Manually toggling it on the phone works fine.

To test, I made a new task with:
BT off
Wait 20sec
BT on

I get the same error in the last step.

Works fine on my Droid Turbo with Kitkat 4.4.4.

What device?
OS version?
Tasker version?
Any other apps installed that might affect BT?

Almost certainly something specific to your situation. Maybe you have a custom ROM or rooted device ?

I have some profiles switching BT on and off, and sometimes I have the same problem. Once the errormessage shows,Tasker can't turn on BT anymore, no matter how long I wait. Only problem is that it's not clear (at least not to me...) what causes it. Most of the times it works perfectly, but then again suddenly this message appears.

Galaxy S3, rooted.

Factory ROM
  Model: Verizon S4 (SCH-I545)
  Android: 4.4.2
  Baseband: I545VRUFNC5

ROM has been this version for 6-9 months and has always been "Towel" rooted.  My "low power" task has been used for the majority of it.
For some reason, it seems to have started a couple of weeks (maybe a month or two) ago.  Usually don't run my battery that low, so I never noticed.

Completely odd that I can turn it off but not Toggle or On?

New find:
Wireless also fails to turn on (or toggle) but does turn off also.  [very interesting coincidence]
I does not get a popup though.

Are there any other apps installed that can enable/disable wifi and/or BT?

I did a google search using the keywords:

cannot turn on bluetooth android

and got several hits. Apparently there is some conflict between Nexus phones and android 4.2.

A solution posted in at least two different places:

go to : parameters/applications/all/Bluetooth
Empty cache, erase data and remove upgrades.
Restart your phone

It's worth a try.

I dont know where "parameters/applications/all/Bluetooth" refers to?  Nothing on the devices "SD" card.
Application Manager does not have a plain "Bluetooth" entry.

Yes there is.  I use Juice Defender, and lo and behold, it cant turn on WiFi either!  THank you.
Looks to be a systemic issue.  :-(

Thanks for all the wonderful replies.  Pent should be proud of his app and the support his users have.  (and quick/direct support from him also!)

It's called "Bluetooth Share" on my device.

Is Kitkat 4.4.4 available for your device? Maybe moving to a later version will solve it.

I was on 4.4.2.  During the hunt to fix this, I found Verizon has released Lolipop for mine!
Running on v5.0.1 and my problem has disappeared also.  :-)

My favourite bugs, the ones that disappear without me doing anything :-)
