I just got a new car (Honda) with Android Auto. I connect my Galaxy S8 to it via USB outlet in the car. As soon as Android Auto (AA) loads into the headunit, it appears that the phone gets put into some sort of sleep state.

I really like AA and it works well. But when I get out of the car, I always forget to take my phone with me. Since it's connect to AA, I figured it would be pretty simple to use Tasker to create profiles for a reminder beep. So I have three profiles:

1. Reminder_enable = true when I connect the phone to the car.
2. Reminder run when I stop the car and reminder is enabled
3. Stop and disable reminder either after 20 seconds or when the volume up key is pressed.

So this works perfectly when I test it by running AA as an app on my phone. I've actually had success using several methods such as Power USB/Not Power USB, AA Running/Not AA Running, etc. But when I plug the phone into the car, nothing works. Interestingly, If I go to settings within AA while connected to the car, things start to work, but as soon as I exit back to AA's main screen everything dies again. For those not familiar with AA, when it's running you are locked out from getting back to the phone's home screen. You can have one or the other, but not both.

Does anyone have any idea what's happening with this? Thanks!!

To make sure Tasker and the AutoApps run in the foreground:
- make sure Tasker is enabled
- enable foreground notification in Tasker settings
- enable the "Use reliable alarms" option
- Disable battery optimization for the apps
- Make sure the Android Settings -> Apps -> Tasker -> Battery -> Background activity option is enabled (this setting may be somewhere else on different OEMs, but it's a very important setting that might be disabled by default on some devices)
Hope this helps!

Looks like that worked!! I already had most of your suggestions implemented except for the "Use reliable alarms" option. I set that and tested it a couple of times and so far, so good!!

Thanks!!
