Disclaimer: I posted this to StackExchange before finding this Google Groups.

I can't seem to get the following profile to come out of DND mode once it's no longer face down. I need to manually do it each time. How can this be made to work?

Profile: Orientation Face Down (3)
State: Orientation [ Is:Face Down ]
Enter: Do Not Disturb On (4)
A1: Do Not Disturb [ Mode:None ]

Exit: Do Not Disturb Off (24)
A1: Do Not Disturb [ Mode:All ]

Try removing the exit task. Just do the enter task and see if the setting reverts itself automatically. There is a setting in Tasker to revert and the exit task could be causing it revert back into Dnd.

I removed the exit task and confirmed my profile is exactly what you've got. It still enters DND but never shuts it off.

Do you have Restore Settings enabled in the profile options?

Yes, "Restore Settings" is checked on this profile's settings.

What device and Android version do you have?

Does running the DND Off task that you had before turn it off?

Only other thing I could think of would be to try going through the custom settings and see what does up in there for turning off DND

Galaxy S9 - SM-G960U1
8.0.0

Yes, I just checked and that task does disable DND! That sounds like a very important clue although I don't know what to do with it. I'm hoping you have some ideas, though. :-)

I'm on a Note 9 with 8.1 so I'm not sure what the difference is.

Add a flash action to the DND Off task to just show text like "DND Off". Just add it to the end of the task you already have for DND Off. Add the exit task back to your profile and uncheck the Restore Settings box for the profile. Turn the phone face down and make sure your profile activates the DND. Once it is active, turn the phone face up and see if you get the flash message.

Yes, it did show the flash message ...but DND remained on. Here's what I've currently got:

Profile: Everywhere: Orientation Face Down (3)
Restore: no
State: Orientation [ Is:Face Down ]
Enter: Do Not Disturb On (4)
A1: Do Not Disturb [ Mode:None ]

Exit: Do Not Disturb Off (24)
A1: Do Not Disturb [ Mode:All ]
A2: Flash [ Text:Dnd off! Long:Off ]

I have a note 9 also, and I use custom settings for dnd, however it works once only, manually. So I think Samsung is funky with it. I turn it on easily, but off works once. I had it gone with note 8.

I don't know what is going on with the Note 9, but I have no problem with DND on my Galaxy S9 with Oreo. Works consistently with the sceen on or off. Here is the task I used:

    Profile: Proximity

        State: Proximity Sensor

    Enter:
    A1: Do Not Disturb
        Mode: None

    Exit:
    A1: Do Not Disturb
        Mode: All

That's fascinating because using the Proximity Sensor state just like you did, Robert, totally works for me (both on and off) - whereas the Orientation Face Down state does not.
Huh?...

Well, at least the problem isolated to Orientation state. It seems very reluctant to change state with the screen off. The only way I could get it to work even semi-reliably is to select Yes, and keep Android awake for the accelerometer. Here is my test task:

    Profile: Orientation Test

        State: Orientation
        Is: Face Down

    Exit:
A1: Turn On Block Time (Check Help):0

    A2: Flash
        Text: Done
        Long: Off

I'm not sure how to do that "Turn On Block Time" line you have. This is as close as I could get it:

Profile: Orientation Test (45)

State: Orientation [ Is:Face Down ]
Exit: Orient Test (46)
A1: Turn On
A2: Do Not Disturb [ Mode:All ]
A3: Flash [ Text:Done Long:Off ]

When I run this as a profile, it shows "Done" but stays in DND. When I run the "Orient Test" task from the task tab, it shows "Done" and successfully gets it out of DND mode(?!)...

The Turn On block time is under Display > Turn On.

I've tried again on my Note 9 and when the display is off the orientation sensor is not firing at all. Even tried the turn on trick but it never fired with the orientation sensor when the display was off.

I tested that all with the display on

Thanks to João.. because of a great video he posted on his Patreon group this morning this has been solved!!

Looks like it comes down to the accelerometer must be enabled when the screen is off for this to work.

Anyways.. here is a link to a project he created on Taskernet that works.

https://taskernet.com/shares/?user=AS35m8ne7oO4s%2BaDx%2FwlzjdFTfVMWstg1ay5AkpiNdrLoSXEZdFfw1IpXiyJCVLNW0yn&id=Project%3AFlip+To+Shhh

If you are on the latest Tasker Beta it will ask you for permissions when you import.. if not on the latest beta for this project you will need to give taker Admin access.

Before you import.. you might just want to see if the accelerometer setting does it for you. Just create a task and run it one time manually as follows. This seems to work for me even with the screen off now on my Note 9.

Flip To Shh Setup (53)
A1: Set Tasker Pref [ Set:Accelerometer Value:Yes Value: ]

Wow, thank you, João, for all of your efforts.

Unfortunately, it's still not working for me... :-(
  • The first thing I did was run Robert's manual task. Then I tried running my own DND profile again but it still couldn't take it out of DND mode.
  • I imported the Taskernet project and answered "Yes" to all of the prompts while importing. I granted Admin access. When I ran it, it put the phone in DND and locked the screen. When I unlocked it, though, it was still in DND.
  • Once that failed, I figured I'd experiment, so I tried removing the exit task and changing João's profile's "restore settings" setting. But that didn't work, either.

I'm not sure why but if the accelerometer is set to yes, it works every time with the screen off. Sometimes it does take 3-4 seconds before it turns off the DND though. If I set the accelerometer to no then it doesn't work at all with the screen off.

Are you sure that you don't have any other profiles running that might turn DND back on or something? Or DND set to certain hours that might interfere? I'm sure you've already checked but just wanted to make sure.

I use the same orientation sensor for a face down vibrate option and it works every time no matter how the accelerometer is set so I'm not sure why it has to be on for the DND to work correctly.

I have a note 9 also non stock. Android 8.1.0, Samsung experience 9.5. The imported dnd toggle that Jao made works on my phone.
