I am trying to set up two separate tasker tasks w/ home screen shortcuts that either increase or decrease Media Volume by 2.

I know how to set Media Volume to a specific level when a task is run - that's easy. But I want to increase or decrease the volume from whatever it is currently set at by 2.

I tried using Add To Variable and Subtract from Variable and using the Media Volume Variable, but it said I couldn't do that.

I tried using the Media Volume Task and doing %VOLM ~ %VOLM - 2 and also %VOLM ~ (%VOLM - 2) but those didn't work either.

Not sure if I'm missing something or if %VOLM is just not able to be changed in that way.  Hoping someone has an idea on how to accomplish the slight increasing/decreasing of the media volume (which could then also be useful for doing the same with other specific channel volume levels).

Thanks!

Hmmm...
In my device
1. Test task
a) Flash: %VOLA - gives: 2
b) Alarm Volume: %VOLA+2
c) Flash: %VOLA - gives: 4

In system settings alarm volume is set on 4

Yep - that did it. I was just over complicating the formula. Thanks!

Hey - Can't tell if you're trying to increase the volume by 1 or trying to increase the volume to 10.  Based on the below, it would appear that you're running a loop that continually increases the volume by 1 until it gets to 10?

Anyway, it's actually simple.  If you want to increase the volume by 1 (or whatever), you don't use variable set.  Use the task:
Audio Settings - Media Volume
When it first opens, it looks like you only have a bar to set media to a certain level which if you're just trying to set media to 10, you could do there.
If however, you want it to increase media volume by 1 (or another factor) then you hit the little button that looks kinda like a recycle button (it's two arrows in a circle) and that changes the field to a variable field.
In the variable field enter %VOLM+1  (or +2 or whatever factor you want to increase it by).

Hope that helps!

Thanks!

hollywoodfrodo has it right. You're trying to do 2 different things in step 1. Try like frodo said:

1. If %VOLM < 10
2. Media Volume Set %VOLM+2
3. Wait 3 sec
4. Goto Action Number 1
5. End If

I know some of the built in variables don't let you change them like that, but volume is one that you can change to your whims.

Hi!  I am trying the same thing, but I am having problems.  Would you be able to tell me what I am doing wrong? Here is my task:

  1. Variable set %MYVOL to %VOLM
  2. if %MYVOL < 10
  3. Variable Add %MYVOL + 1
  4. Wait 3 seconds
  5. Goto Action Number 1
  6. End If

This never increases my volume level.  Any advice?

Press the blue circular arrows, then the slider changes to a variable input box.

Thank you for that, Matt. For the life of me, I cannot find a blank dialog page that contains the circular arrows - how do I get this option, please? Thanks, Kevin

Do you know how to do that in the current tasker interface?? I've been searching everywhere and you are the only one who seems to know

Under Preferences go to the UI tab and it should be the first check box.

I'm changing my volume by executing "VOLM+1" and "VOLM-1"

Since some time it doesn't work anymore.

I included it into my tutorial here: http://www.jagwar.de/en/zooper-media-volume-buttons/

Some user complained that their setup stopped working, too. Did something change?

I'm going crazy to search a way instead of "set" (considering that we cannot "set" a built-in var).
Thanks, many thanks.
Bye!
