Hi all, I have tried every example I can find but I cannot get SMS auto-reply to work if the recipient is %SMSRF. If I hard code my own phone number, the auto-reply does work.

I am using Android 4.3 on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy SIII. I have the latest version (paid) of Tasker from the Play Store (I think it's 4.1u3).

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Recipient should be left optional (for all text messages) or C:ANY (for text from any contact) or specified by number.

%SMSRF is NOT a valid field entry for contact context.

Add, alert. Flash %SMSRF

... does it flash anything?

Check to see that in the android settings under accessibility - services that Tasker is set to On.

If that doesn't help, then please post a Tasker description for the profile. To do that, the profile must be named, long press the profile name and then select menu > export > descripton to clipboard (not XML) and paste the clipboard into a post. That will allow us to better help you.

When I long press I don't see the export option. Beginner mode is unchecked.

Long press, select the 'A' button, name the profile, select export, description to clipboard, paste here.

Solved. I had a 3rd party SMS app (Textra) installed. When I uninstall that and stick with stock messaging it all works.

awesome. I had heard textra used some outrageous (some reasoned borderline dangerous) level of broadcast intent interception.

... guess there may be more truth to that than I thought.

Yeah I will stick with stock for now. Thanks!

In most of such third party sms app you will have a setting some where to allow stock sms to have receiving priority.

It may term differently but must be there in sms APP you mentioned too.

You can therefore use it along with Tasker rather deleting it.

I was also using textra and trying to do this. i deleted textra, but the %SMSRF tag still wont work. its sending the message to "%SMSRF" instead of the value that should take its place. what am i doing wrong?

Have you tried reinstalling tasker?
