Hi,
When I'm in the car driving, I get Tasker to do all sorts, but the one thing that bugs me is that I need the screen to stay awake while a certain app is on, eg. Spotify. Otherwise the screen locks and I need to try tap in a pin to unlock while driving which isn't smart.
Anyway I know if the phone is rooted I can use the helper app to keep the screen awake - but how can I do this without having a rooted phone. It must be possible as I have now found another little app called 'Keep Screen On'  which does exactly what I want - so why can Tasker do the same so I don't have to have another app running in the background?

Can't you just set a very long screen time out?

That would be my recommendation too.

I was in the same boat, so i created a car profiel that does the following:
Removes Pin lock via secure settings,
Changes screen timeout..to whatever you please
Will wake the phone upon change of music track...this needs the media utilities plugin

Thanks for the tips,
I've managed to setup something that works for me:
  • New Profile called In-Car
  • Context
    • Orientation : Standing Up
    • Power : Any
  • Tasks
    • Keyguard : Set Off
    • Secure Settings : Screen Dim Manual - On
I created a defaults exit task to set the Screen Dim Manual back to off

I would like to try the media utilities plugin to wake on track change.
Also only slight annoyance is occasionally on bumpy roads it'll flick on and off, but generally it works well!

cheers!

For your bumpy roads, make the first two actions in you exit task to:
wait 2 seconds
stop if %PACTIVE ~ *,In-Car,*
