So uber-noob here, wondering if this is possible.

I have an app that I need to exit, wait a few (5) seconds, then restart about every half-hour or so.

How would I go about setting that up?  Or is it even possible?

By the way, I do mean "exit" the app, not just send it to the background.

If your wanting to kill it your probably going to need a rooted device and the secure settings plugin.

To kill a app you almost certainly need root.
You can try the tasker 'kill app' action or there are a few plug ins that work well. 'Taskkill' or 'secure settings' or you can use a shell command.

There is a time context that fire every 30 minutes

And there is a action / app / load app

Thanks for the information, guys.

So essentially the project's pretty much a non-starter without a rooted phone.

You can try the kill action without root. You might get lucky.

Yup, if you haven't noticed not many apps have a way for the user to exit, this is because of the way the Android OS is designed apps are supposed to run in the background so they load faster next time you open it.see here
