The Display Off event trigger + Set Wallpaper (Launcher) task can cause what is functionally identical to the following issue:

The effect is the same as depicted in the video, and occurs every time the screen is turned off and then back on via the power button within a second or two. From start to finish, the device can be initially locked or unlocked; it does not matter.

I am using a Google Pixel, first version, not XL. This bug first appeared after installation of the Android Pie update.

My locked background is never changed, which is expected.
Essentially, the normal unlocked ("launcher") wallpaper being changed whilst the device is locked causes the lock screen to go blank.

I use this task so that I can randomize the unlocked background to see something new each time it unlocks, rather than witnessing a background change while the device is unlocked.

Additional note: I would use a Display Locked event if one were added, though I expect the bug would still occur under such an event.

I've seen this too, although it could easily be an Android issue as opposed to a Tasker issue.

Interesting. I would definitely say it's an Android/Launcher bug. Did you try with a different launcher?

Just wanted to say that after 2 commutes with my new Pixel 3 this does not happen anymore. It could be that the new phone has a slightly newer version of the Pixel launcher the would hopefully be sent to all Pixels sooner rather than later.
