So I made a profile for Ingress so that when that program is open, it uses the Display Timeout setting and I set it to 1 hour.

However, this doesn't work as the screen turns off after 5 minutes.

Is there some other way to do this?  I basically just want the screen to not turn off at all if Ingress is open but figured an hour would be plenty of time..
I'd actually prefer if the screen still dimmed after 30 seconds but would just stay in the dimmed state.  But if it has to stay on all the way, I'm fine with that too.

Thanks!

Doh, can't seem to edit my post.  Also wanted to add that I'd like this to also stay on when the phone is plugged in.  If I need to plug it in first and then run the app or something like that, I'm good with that too.

Thanks.

For me it works. You can dim the screen by setting Display Brightness to a lower value.

I have a S3 running stock 4.1.2 if that matters.
I even tries setting all the sliders all the way across so it shows * * * and it still turns off after 5 minutes.

I would start by checking the Run Log ( menu /more /run log) to see if the action is running and see if something is resetting it.

Can you change the timeout setting manually in your Android settings and have it maintain that setting when using the app?

Could you post your profile here...  Long press on the profile name / ( 3 dot menu with 4.0+ ) export / export description to clipboard (not XML)

The beginner mode needs to be off and the profile needs to have a name to be able to export.

What would you like to stay on?
Are we still talking about with the app running?

I don't get an export option when log pressing a profile name but do get one for the task so here's that:

DisableScreenTimeout (34)
A1: Display Timeout [ Secs:* Mins:* Hours:* ]

I saw something on the wikia page that said this setting could be overwritten by the Say On setting if it's plugged in.  I just want it to stay on whether it's plugged in or not.

Normally my timeout is set to 30 seconds.
When Ingress opens, it changes to 5 minutes, which is the maximum time I can set it to manually through the actual Android Settings, but doesn't set to what I have Tasker set to change it to.

It seems that when I set it to anything more than that 5 minutes with Tasker, it's defaulting to just the 5 minute option.  I was just hoping to get it to set for a longer time than that since 5 minutes isn't all that long.  Maybe Verizon has tha tlocked down or something?  Or maybe this MobileIron program I have on for work is capping it at 5 minutes.

Is there maybe some way to send a Keep Alive type command every few minutes if the timeout option isn't going to work?

Thanks.

It should be there...

I'm assuming it is just a app context With ingress selected..

It still could be several different problems. Were you able to check the Run Log?

I would try putting a small wait before the action "Display timeout"  Perhaps tasker is setting the time out before ingress does..

OK.  I just went and talked to our Sys Admin guy and he said that Mobile Iron (required on our work phones) does max out the timeout at 5 minutes.

So, is there any way to have Tasker continuously send any sort of command every minute while the app would be open to make the phone think I'm tapping the screen or anything?  hmmm.

With root access you can stimulate screen taps.

Are you rooted?

I do not think you want  a screen tap..

There is a plug in called secure settings that has screen on setting that will keep the screen on if set in a loop for every 4 minutes.   I do not think that action in secure settings requires root.

You could use a profile with the app context and a 'every 4 minutes ' time context with secure settings 'screen on" in the task...
