What should the "Ringer" audio stream do?

First of all, Tasker is the best application I've seen for Android.
I've had a good time fooling with it, and I love what I've been able
to make my phone do.

I have been struggling to understand the way audio is routed (from
what stream to what speaker, etc). on my phone. For the record, I
have a Droid Incredible on the official 2.2. My question, as it
pertains to Tasker, is as follows.

When I have my headphones plugged in and my ringer volume turned up,
my phone rings through the external speaker and the headphones when a
call come in.

However, when I have a "Say" action in tasker set to use the "ringer"
stream, the sound only comes from the headphones.

Is there some reason why that would behave differently?

Thanks,
Korey

The phone app does complicated things to the audio routing. I can't
say any more :-)
Did you try the other Say streams ?

[apologies if this is a repeat - I don't see this post from
yesterday]

Hi Pent-

Yeah, I did an experiment with all of the streams. I used that method
to basically map out all the streams. Here's what I found:

When the physical headphones are unplugged, the system, ringer, media,
alarm and notification streams get routed to the external speaker. The
call stream is routed to the earpiece.

When the headphones are plugged in, the alarm and notification streams
seem to be routed to the external speaker (speakerphone, I guess). The
call, system and media streams get routed to the headphones. The
ringer stream has been behaving oddly. The Tasker "ring" stream goes
through the headphone, but the actual incoming call rings through the
external speaker.

But, if as you say, the phone app is messing with stuff, I can deal
with that. I was hoping it was documented somewhere, though :)
