With a rooted phone you can simulate navigating/selecting with a trackball.  So, if the widget is on your homescreen you could use go home, down/left/right/up/etc., then press.  These functions are under Input -> Dpad.

Well, I'm trying to click on a widget as well (USB Tetherng widget) but my DPAD actions aren't selecting the widget. They just skip to the next regular "button" instead. I'm using Nova Launcher if it matters. Has anybody been able to click on a generic widget (I'd be happy with a click on (x,y))?

Update: I managed to do it by running this command:

/system/bin/input tap 450 1070

Where 450 and 1070 are the screen coordinates where I'm tapping. Tested on Android 4.1.2.
