When you say disables itself, do you mean that the Tasker icon on the main tasker screen becomes grey?

Not sure it usually has a notification in my notifications panel but it disappears Completely. And I have to go into tasker and disable then re-enable.

Do you have a memory/task killer?

So the answer to Matt R is yes ;)

From the description of Clean Master:

Memory Boost/Task Killer - Boosting apps and games speed is much easier with Clean Master.

and

[Memory Boost] - Increase memory and speed up your device
Tasks running in the background not only occupy system RAM, but also waste your battery life. Memory Boost can stop other apps that are running in the background and free up more RAM to speed up your Android device.

I would say that's your problem right there...

Is Run in Foreground enabled in Tasker's Preferences?

menu > Preferences > General > Run in Foreground = checked

This is necessary to insure that android's memory manager doesn't kill tasker's background service.

Are you on the current beta?  I am and Tasker mysteriously disabled on me a couple of times. I think I was accidentally pressing the new "disable" notification action when scrolling through my notifications. I have since turned that option off and all is well.

I don't think I'm on the current beta. I updated to 4.4.4 yesterday and it made no difference. Also, run in foreground seems to unchecked itself.
