Hi there,

I'm trying to explore the uses of Autoshortcut in Tasker but running into problems. I'm getting the error ' data blocked, return to the main app and exit via the main screen' when I try to Edit configuration in an action. I've tried exiting the app from the main screen to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Zach

That's the error you get if you try to create a task shortcut while tasker is in an edit screen. It sounds like you're trying to use autoshortcut to create a tasker action to run a tasker task. That's not really how it's supposed to work. AutoShortcu lets you run shortcuts to other apps as a tasker action. If you want to run a task, just use the run task action.

I think I follow you. Perhaps I can''t do what I aim to do. What my end goal would be is to create an action that will control a specific part of an app. For example I want to be able to create a command that opens up my podcast app and hits play in that app. Is that even possible?

Just create a task shortcut.
No need for Autoshortcut here. As bdanders said, AutoShortcut allows tasker actions to access device shortcuts for other apps.

For example, using my voice to say search for song blah blah... performs one action, saying search for THIS song autoshortcuts to sound hound id.

Okay, I'm still a bit confused only because when I try and create a task shortcut widget I get the same message. What gives???

Open Tasker and hit the back button until you exit from the main screen.

Okay there it goes.

I want to be able to do more than just play music however, for example I want to be able to command my phone (via autovoice) to do things like turn on my wifi tether, delete waypoints or activate navigation for my next waypoint in this navigation app I have (bestroute pro), or go into my podcast app (which doesn't have a widget) and tell it to stop or play.

Sorry I just started playing with Tasker last night and it's all a lot to take in at once but I can see the potential.

You will need to repeat the exit process after any changes made in tasker to have those changes to effect also.

AutoVoice has a shortcut option. You can create a task to launch autovoice easily.

to do things like turn on my wifi tether,

... will be more difficult/involved.

delete waypoints or activate navigation for my next waypoint in this navigation app I have (bestroute pro),

... may not be possible. Just be fore-warned.

or go into my podcast app (which doesn't have a widget) and tell it to stop or play.

... depending on the player app, this may or may not be possible.

Sorry I just started playing with Tasker last night and it's all a lot to take in at once but I can see the potential.

... limited mostly be one's imagination. Overcoming the learning curve is a process however.
