Note: Im using a keyboard with a touchpad its like ninja difficult to use Tasker with a TV Remote.
Theres info out there on getting Tasker on the TV so i wont go into that im assuming your familiar with Taskers UI and that you know the basics, keep in mind Tasker is not a TV app so your better off not asking the dev for support with it if your running it on a TV.
#1. As soon as you open Tasker on the TV you will notice there is no 3 dots (overflow menu) on the Toolbar at the top of the screen which means you cant get into the apps settings to disable beginner mode and all that good stuff.
Workaround. Create a new Task call it whatever you want and inside it add 1 action Launch app in the action edit screen select Tasker as the app to launch but when selecting it long press it instead this will give you some new options select Settings now exit out of Tasker to save this task, go back into Tasker and run the task you should now have access to the apps settings and you can change whatever you want.
#2. Open the scene editor you will notice there is no Toolbar at the top of the screen so you cant change any of the scenes properties, first resize the scene so it fills the display then place a rectangle element in the middle of the screen and color it whatever you want exit scene editor and then create a task to launch the scene you will see it launches but it has a white background which you cannot change.
Workaround. Create the scene on your Tablet/Phone press menu (or the 3 dots) change the grid size the lower the better IMO then go into properties and change whatever you want but make sure you set background to #00000000 which is full transparent at this point your done. Exit the scene editor and export the scene you just made to your device (as xml) and transfer it to the TV and then import it to Tasker. Now you can edit this scene however you want if you decide you dont want the background to be transparent instead of exporting it to your other device to edit and trasnferring it across you can just add a rectangle element.Make sure touch mode is set to normal and then long press the rectangle and choose set as background and now you can crack on creating your scene.
#4. In a lot of places you will notice there is no X button in the Toolbar and navigation doesnt work so you cant exit the screen if you changed your mind or something pressing escape doesnt work either.
Workaround. Just pick something doesnt matter what it is, press escape. For example you create a task with a flash but then change your mind and decide to use a popup instead so to get rid of the flash you will need to fill in the flash text with anything then you can just delete the flash and crack on with adding the popup.
Theres probably more but im happy with how well it works and having my Phones notifications popup on my screen while watching TV is sweeeeeeeet :)
Question. Anyone have any ideas how i can show the scene properties mentioned in #2 there must be an easier way i was thinking maybe i could add a button to the scene that opens up the scene properties and then i could just delete the button once im done with it but i have no idea how to make the task to open the scenes properties so that i can actually link it to the button. My first idea was a run shell command with a menu button key event event but the TVs not rooted so that wont work, next i though about using the input action but thats not available on the TV so i cant use that. cheers.
