If I uninstall Tasker, the Android Market ejects me to the home screen if I attempt to access 'My Apps'. If I reinstall Tasker (no tasks now), 'My Apps' works again. Uninstall, it breaks. If I reboot between uninstalling Tasker and attempting to use the Market, there is no difference. Tasker's enabled/disabled status makes no difference. If I force stop Tasker after installing it, 'My Apps' still works. If I force stop Tasker before uninstalling it, 'My Apps' does not work.

The tasks I previously used changed screen brightness by time, changed media volume by time, and responded to certain SMS messages with GPS data.

I don't *think* this is related to the 'Device Administrators' setting, since I have never enabled Tasker as an administrator and, when it is installed, it is not checked as an administrator.

I have not tried uninstalling Market updates at any point in my testing, since I have no control over when the Market updates itself again. If I should try that, please let me know.

This is by far the weirdest thing I've ever seen in Android. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't tested it multiple times (with varied reboot cycles).

LG Optimus S, Sprint, stock (Sprint) Android 2.3.3 (OTA), Tasker 1.1.1u2.

Isn't it more appropriate to report this to the developers of Android
Market ? Behaviour on your phone when Tasker is not installed is
unlikely to be caused by Tasker.

Behavior that is clearly linked to Tasker's presence should be reported here as well as elsewhere. My guess is that the actual fault lies with the Market simply because I have never had a problem with Tasker... and there are plenty of problems with the Market. :-/

For the chance that Tasker may have exposed a bug, however inadvertently, I thought you should know. I have a hard time imagining how that would happen. But it's never happened with any other app; with Tasker it happens reliably.

This is a really bizarre issue. I'm not asking you to take responsibility for it, but rather to be aware that it can happen. Somehow, these things interact, and you might randomly discover how. The Market is usually not optional, so...

I am curious whether this is reproducible by anyone else.

Thanks,

Jon

Sorry if I was a bit short. It's just there are so many problems with
the Market app, also on the purchase side, that the very subject makes
me cranky :-)

No offense taken, and thanks for the good work. Tasker is one of the most useful apps on Android.

You'd have to convince someone on this list to un-install Tasker. Good
luck, soldier =)

I haven't seen what you've described.  Whenever I see Market weirdness, I go into Menu > Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > All.  I select the Market app, uninstall updates, Clear data, Clear cache.  Then I select the Download manager app, and Clear Data and Clear cache.  Reboot.  After a few minutes, launch Market, leave phone alone for a few minutes.  It'll update the Market app by itself.
