Hi,
since Jelly Bean the notifications support priorities and with MIN priority, the notification is not visible on the status bar (still visible in the pull down list however). I was looking how to enable this feature in Tasker but I haven't found it. Does Tasker (v4) support it? If yes, where can I find it. If no, would you consider that for future? I believe it's a quick fix and yet it helps a lot. Status bar gets easily cluttered and we (I) do not need to see an icon that is doing nothing except keeping an application alive.

Thanks!

OK, I might have not been exact in describing my request. I want the Tasker icon/notification (from the Tasker application itself, not from any task/profile) to be gone from the status bar. I know, this can be disabled, but then there's a bigger risk of system killing the Tasker service.

Is you answer, Joaomgcd, still relevant to my question? If yes, can you guide me, please? I installed it but I understood it is only for creating user notifications from tasks/profiles, it does not change the main tasker notification icon.

Thanks

Sorry, misunderstood your request. :) My app is indeed useful for creating your own notifications. Sorry about the confusion.

Read these two entries:

In Tasker's prefs, set it to run as foreground.  In the same prefs screen, set Tasker's icon as the first icon in the list, which is transparent, so it won't show up on your status bar.

Hi Tom,
thank you. I know about these options, they are just not the same. They have some visual side effects (like a gap between the other notification icons, etc.). Jelly Bean feature offers much more elegant solution. Who knows, maybe Pent considers it one day...

Cheers,

Jelly Bean can hide any notification icon without losing the "foreground" feature. Just long press the notification, select "App info" and unselect "Show notifications". If you then want a notification for a specific profile(s), create your own.

I can't remember the last time I saw Tasker in my notification bar :-D

The question is, if you supress the application notification in system, will other (profile/task) notification still work? I thought not, that's why I didn't go this way.

Oops, I sent it direct to Aleš, meant to send to the list, sorry....

Yes, I use it that way myself (Tasker notification is hidden, but a couple of profiles show their notification under certain conditions).

But if you are not sure, just give it a try. Just select Tasker in Android Settings -> Apps and then re-select "Show notifications" if it doesn't work, and you are back to where you started :)

Checked.
It prevents other (from custom Tasks) notifications for appearing and also hides the notification from the pull-down drawer.

So this is rather a Feature Request for Pent - please consider customizing a priority of Main Tasker Notification, this would allow us to still have the notification in pull down but not the icon in the status bar.

Thanks Everyone,

OMG. Yes, yes, yes! Your instructions worked perfectly! I couldn't stand that Tasker bit in the Notification Center. Genius!

This is weird/strange.

I have a phone with KitKat (KK), the notification is there.   Not a problem.

I have a Tablet with JellyBean (JB), and the notification icon is NOT there.
Yet, when I go into the app manager and look, the "SHOW NOTIFICATION" is ticked, and yet I am NOT seeing the icon.
I honestly can't say if the icon was ever visible or not.
But the "Gremlins" are playing games just now and I am doing A - B comparison.   I know it isn't good with different OSs on the two devices, but....  Gotta start somewhere.

What is also strange is:  On the phone (KK) the main GUI for Tasker has the icon with the ORANGE "lightening bolt" though it.
On the Tablet (JB), the main GUI has a TOTALLY GREY icon.

Go figure.

Update - sorry I really need to work on things about to happen.

I went into App Manager on the KK device, and unticked the "Show notification" button.
The icon went away.

Annoyingly (looking for a better word) if you re-tick it, the icon does NOT come back.
Just to let anyone else know, in case you are curious.

That is why the icon is not in the notify bar. Grey means tasker is 'disabled'. to enable tasker, long press the icon. this is most likely the issue on you other post about profile no longer working.

Yup.  You got it.

Thanks.

Sorry about that, but "one thing leads to another" and gee I am having a lot of bad luck just now.
