Is there a way to make the [system] media volume bar pop up?
thanks

What exactly are you asking?  When do you want it to popup? When you change the volume normally, with Tasker, etc...? Or do you want the media volume to be the one changed when you change the volume with the rocker?

Try using Media Volume actions to set it one higher then one lower straight after.

That displays it for <1 second. Of course a WAIT action afterwards keeps it displayed and useable but I don't want the task to wait.
thanks

At times I want the volume bar PARKED on screen until told to disappear.
One example, after the Dialer connects. I find myself groping for the manual rocker switch (which is in a wacked out -outta reach- place on the LG Pro E980) to adjust the volume PER CALL. After I connect to anyone, let the volume bar pop up and stay there until dismissed, there is enough screen space.

Another example, someone who has a little hearing problem (my papa) and depending on the audio stream, bt, headset, or speaker, AND which ear(!) is constantly adjusting the volume! Programming a pre-defined volume per event is outta question. If the volume bar is displayed, this is routine and no problem, as opposed to the hard to use hardware volume rocker. It ain't like the old radio!

Why not just build a scene with a media volume slider and have that show when ever you want,

I haven't been following this thread so maybe this was already suggested or is a bad idea.

I tried that first. But for a variety of reasons ruled it out.
The native slider is easier to use, more responsive, larger, etc. Yes, of course the scene widget can be played with, but after everything is said and done, in my case it was flimsy and not easy to grasp/control. Also there is less overhead with the system slider.
Furthermore, for old-timers it causes confusion. Why sometimes I get this volume slider and sometimes that.
Further furthermore :) by using the native Android control you ensure no gui inconsistencies across devices. (Something like SWT versus SWING in Java.)

Aye but the advantage of a scene slider is it can be displayed for as long as you want.

I get what your saying though :)

You might be able to invoke it with a intent but  you most likely will not be able to place it where you want.

I do not like sliders for volume in any case.  I use a scene with 2 buttons + / -   and have them nice and big for the over 50 crowd.  It works much better than a slider.

True, however you can customize A scene but can not customize the android slider.

I am speaking from experience, " you can teach a old dog new tricks).  :)

Ya got me on that one.....

As long as it appears at the same position as always, I don't mind.

Okaayyy. But! I use +/- buttons for custom audio control (over 70 crowd<g>). +Fast forward or -rewind [audio] x minutes. Yet another point why the volume control should remain consistent across all apps used on the device.

Ok. So I settled on using Pent's trick followed by a WAIT assigned to a button (with a cutsy ear-volume icon). Tap the button displays the media volume slider for x seconds, long tap for y seconds. Even if the slider disappears too quickly, simply tap the button again. (It will display while interacting with it as long as it takes.)
I'm contemplating to assigning the task to a widget as well, for use with other apps. (Besides my own scenes.)

Thank you all;

CORRECTION! The WAIT does not do anything. And it's not needed; because the system displays it for a few seconds, giving you ample time to handle the bar. (Can you handle a bar<g>?)  So assigning Pent's routine to a scene widget as well as a home screen widget pops it up. If it vanishes too quickly simply tap again.

You should be able to just loop the volume changes as long as you like, or until the user makes a change, don't understand why you need a widget.

1. Doing %VOLM+1 then -1 is fine if NOT in a loop. Otherwise the slider jumps back and forth.
2. The user has no control how to hide the bar if user so chooses (unless I give him a button to do so).

But the real NEW problem is that I just tried the exact task on my (Asus Android 4.2) tablet and the volume bar, although it displays, does not respond to dragging up or down. It works ok on my LG Android 4.1 phone, but not on the tablet.
