I'm trying to solve a problem with activation of car dock mode. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. The car dock that Samsung sells for this device does not have any automatic detection built in, so I am using an NFC tag to activate car mode. At least that is what I am trying to do.

My current setup is using the Locale NFC Plugin to set a state, and the action defined in the associated task is to use Tasker's Car Mode and set it to ON. In another profile, I monitor the state of %UIMODE. This changes to car when the NFC tag is scanned, exactly the way I expect. The device does seem to enter car mode, as I see its car mode indicator on the status bar.

My problem is this. I want my car dock app to automatically launch. I use Car Home Ultra, and it can insert itself into the Home button when it launches with car mode. However, it does not launch. It is set to the default app, but it doesn't launch. I can use Tasker to launch the app, but it won't insert itself into the Home button if I do it this way. It must launch as the car mode app to work the way I want.

I have another app, NFC Task Launcher, that I used to write a command to another tag. That action is Enable Car Dock. When I scan this tag, it works correctly. Car Mode is fully enabled and Car Home Ultra will launch. I want to use NFC Plugin and not NFC Task Launcher. Perhaps something is missing in the API call used by Tasker to set car mode, or perhaps there is something new in ICS that is not being handled correctly. I'm looking for anything that might enable me to get the behavior I want. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think I'm being stupid. I may have just figured it out, but probably won't know for sure until I get in the car again. I checked the Go Home option on the car mode action, which seems to have made a difference. Doh!
