I created a Tasker event profile to unmute my phone when it receives an SMS message with the text 'unmute.'  However, it will not work.  Can anyone help me fix it?

The event profile is;  received text any,*[no sender info], unmute => full volume

Any idea why it won't work?

UPDATE:  I got it to work by creating two identical profiles as described earlier.  If either one is deleted, the phone volume remains muted.  But if both are activated at the same time, the unmute text message will make the phone return to full volume.  Any idea why TWO profiles is needed to accomplish this result?

Need to see your profiles to answer that. Post a Tasker description of the profiles.

To post a profile description, the profile must be named. Long press on the profile name to select it. Then Menu > Export > Description to clipboard (not XML). Paste the clipboard contents into a post.

Bob, thank you for responding and for your helpful instructions.  I post both of the nearly identical profiles I created below.  I also found that they do not consistently unmute my phone, so my prior post was incorrect.

Thanks again for taking the time to lend your expertise.

Mitch

Profile: Unmute By SMS 1 (30)
Event: Received Text [ Type:Any Sender:* Content:Unmute ]
Enter: Full Volume (15)
A1: Ringer Volume [ Level:7 Display:Off Sound:Off ]
A2: Notification Volume [ Level:7 Display:Off Sound:Off ]

Profile: Unmute By SMS 2 (17)
Event: Received Text [ Type:Any Sender:* Content:Unmute ]
Enter: Full Volume (15)
A1: Ringer Volume [ Level:7 Display:Off Sound:Off ]
A2: Notification Volume [ Level:7 Display:Off Sound:Off ]

When you say "unmute my phone" are you cancelling silent mode? If so, you should use the Silent Mode action to set it "Off".

Also, do you have any other profiles that change volume settings to 0?

I got it working using your suggestion.  But to give you a fuller picture (or others having similar problems), here is more info.

I do not have any other profiles that silence my phone.  I set silent (or vibrate-only) mode manually as needed.

By "unmute my phone" I do intend, as you surmised, to cancel silent (or vibrate-only) mode and restore the phone to full volume.  So, when the phone receives a text from any source with the message 'unmute,' Tasker will cause it to reset the ringer and notification volumes to their loudest settings.

To set this profile, I originally used Event/Phone/Received Text [content: unmute] then added Task/Full Volume.  I do not understand why that does not work (especially after adjusting the profile shown below so that the ringer and notification volumes were set to Sound:On).  I was not familiar with the Silent Mode action that you mentioned, but did find it and created this profile:

Profile: Cancel Silent Mode (32)
Event: Received Text [ Type:Any Sender:* Content:unmute ]
Enter: Volume (33)
A1: Silent Mode [ Mode:Off ]
A2: Ringer Volume [ Level:7 Display:Off Sound:On ]
A3: Vibrate On Ringer [ Set:On ]

Now when my phone is in silent or vibrate-only mode and it receives a text with the message 'unmute,' the ringer and notification sounds return to maximum volume.

Thanks for taking the time to help.  I hope to pay it forward at some point.
