Normally I prefer the female Google voice in Say actions.  But I've started having Say speak out jokes.  I would prefer a male voice to speak jokes but couldn't find one in English.  How do I add a male voice that's selectable in Alert/Say?

I think Tasker is merely using the "default:default" voice data for Google Text-To-Speech, meaning I THINK, if you go here:

Settings app > Language & input > Text-to-speech-output > gear icon next to Google Text-to-speech Engine > Install voice data

You can then choose one of a few voice models. (There are 8 English US my phone already has downloaded, with option to download English UK).

That default:default switch contains a tantalizing offer of choosing among available models somehow...

Sounds like you're running vanilla Android while I have a Samsung phone.  By the way, when the screen is off, can you double-tap to turn it on?

I have that option turned off as I constantly turn the screen on by accident after I turn it off and try to put the device in my pocket haha!

But yes, I'm on one of the numerous Pixels.

Well the option exists.  I've surrendered to the lockscreen & friggin fingerprint sensor so I don't consider accidental turn-ons to be a big deal anymore.  I'm still using my old Pixel 2 for kitchen related stuff.  Based on your response, all I need is smooth integration of text messaging with my Samsung S7+ tablet and my next phone will be a Pixel.

I'm interested in audio and TTS and found this OLD post on this Tasker group.
It appears you ought to be able to use the Samsung TTS, either way, just need to figure out the appropriate "default;default" code to use on your Samsung to make that Say action come out in another voice.

From the post above, it appears users' experience in the past is that in some languages or TTS engines, the "great britain" localization for example is one gender but the same localization on another engine is another gender...

Hmm! Still messing with this one, even? hehe
