Hello,

in the Android World I have found an update on the Text To Speech (TTS)
First and foremost, Text-to-Speech 3.0 adds support for high quality voices. Just how drastic the difference is in day-to-day usage in various apps remains to be seen, but as far as file sizes go, we're talking about a jump from 5-6MB to 200+MB. The female English UK voice is a whopping 276MB.

In my phone I have selected to use this above mentioned "high quality voices" (itself, it works)

In my Tasker configurations I have setup some profiles which give me information by TTS.

Unfortunately, since I have installed above update AND select to use high quality voices, I receive the error message (from Tasker) E: 16.18.24#E: error: TTS: timeout waiting for initialization............ and once my phone is booting, it is not using the standard config files/voice information's which I have asked/configured for.

In the mean time I have setup TTS to use Standard Voice (NOT, high quality voices) and it works without failure. I need to assume it is still using the com.google.android.tts-3.0.10.1047791.apk which I have installed initially as above mentioned.

Any Ideas?

Thanks and have a nice day

Thanks for the link.

They mentioned in the article it can take 10 seconds to initialize TTS even on a Nexus 5, I assume a lot longer on older devices.
Tasker currently times out at 10s, I've upped it to 20s.

p.s. in the next version you probably want to deselect the new option Prefs / Misc / Reduce Resource Usage, since you'll have to wait 10+ seconds each time while it restarts the engine otherwise.

thanks for the info

I realize that the phone takes longer to boot......it might come from the huge TTS file and setting........ however, the Voice package seems good/nice (how "she" speaks, but the voice is even not clear as I had the standard voice setting....may you made same observation............

however........ you have mentioned ....it can take up to 10 seconds to initialize TTS........and you have changed in tasker to check up to 20 seconds. I had the same idea, but didn't found the right setting feature. Where is it? Is it in "Monitor Timings?" in my Tasker it is set to 1500 miliseconds application check.

thanks, and let's look for an update on TTS as well

No, it's fixed in the code. You need to wait for the next update.
