Hi there,

I am using a Pixel 6 Pro unrooted, latest updates.

My existing shortcuts continue to work. In one of the last OS monthly updates or a Tasker update, I cannot add new shortcuts.

The home screen launcher allows me to add "widgets". I can scroll to Tasker: I see the three options. I definitely want Tasker Shortcut, as the Task widget does not fit in a home screen bubble-folder but the Shortcut does.

When I select Tasker Shortcut, I get the expected view of a task list, and selecting the task I see its contents, and I expect when I hit the back arrow I will see the new shortcut with the icon and label assigned in the task. However, the shortcut, visually (or invisibly), does not get there on the home screen.

Is this feature working for others?

For some reason Google broke the Pixel launcher recently and made Tasker shortcuts not work any more on it. Because of that, I worked around it by adding a new feature to Tasker.

If you go into a task > Menu > Add To Launcher, you'll be able to add the shortcut to your launcher again.

Hope this helps!

It works great! Thanks. Good workaround; I find it a bit more intuitive this way, in fact. The other way was familiar, but one or both is better than not having any way!

Have a good day,

Hi,

I had the same problem and the solution worked for me as well :)  One minor nit is that the task's icon is missing in the shortcut.  Is there anyway to get the task's icon to appear within the shortcut's image?

Thank you,
MJ

I think that's how all "shortcuts" work, such as for Google Maps, if I add a set place and travel method to home screen as a button (I have a folder bubble of location route shortcuts).

If you were not frequently updating the task and it were simple enough, consider putting it into its own "Project" tab in Tasker, assigning an Icon, and exporting the Project as an App.

I've experimented with that in the past, and it did work for me to create the "app" with the launcher icon linked to a task with a whole icon assigned to the Project tab in Tasker before exporting.

It was a larger project than just a task, with UI, scenes, many variables. It worked.

In one situation, the shortcut links to and calls the task to be run from Tasker.
In the other situation, the exported app calls the task from its own contained code.

Hi Brenden,

In the past, that wasn't the case.  When I setup Tasker shortcuts for Android 13, the shortcut icons had the Task's icon embedded within them.  In fact, those shortcuts on my phone still have the Task's icon within the shortcut icon.  But any new shortcuts I create with this new method do not have the task's icon shown in the shortcut icon.

Anyway, my preference would be to show the Task's icon within the shortcut icon if possible in Android 14.  But I'm happy that Tasker was updated with this new feature :)

Thank you and best regards,
MJ
