After upgrading from Tasker 5.0u7 to 5.2bf1 open file task still works and opens the file. But after editing the file it cannot be saved anymore. Tested with a text file and an xls-file on two different devices running android 7.1.2 and 8.1.0

Could you please have a look at that issue?

Edit: The reason for this seems to be the way the path is opened or transferred:

File path in the target application (MiXplorer Text Editor) with
Tasker 5.0u7 is: /storage/emulated/...
Tasker 5.2bf1 and 5.2bf6 is: content://net.dinglisch.android.taskerm.fileprovider/Others/...

Yes, that's because of the way file sharing works on newer Android versions. I can try to add an option to allow a file to be editable in the target app and see if that works... Thanks!

That would be great, i'm using this task often to open and edit files. Thanks for your very fast answer!

No problem! Unfortunately I tried to add it but it didn't work with my particular file editor. Which editor are you using so I can try it out?

Normally I'm working with the built-in Editor of MiXplorer File Explorer (from XDA Labs)

I've also tested with
- Turbo Editor //  (Text File)
- WPS Office (XLS File)

Can you please try with this version? Thanks!

You are amazing! It works! At least almost all of the time ...

When trying to save a text-file which was opened with open file task in MiXplorer text editor I receive an error message: "couldn't upload! >> content://net.dinglisch.android.taskerm.fileprovider/..." There must be some file access, because after trying to save, the file still exists but is empty. The content is not changed, but deleted completely.

But other text editors work perfectly. I've tested with: Turbo Editor, Amaze Text Editor (built in Amaze File Manager), WPS Office and QuickEdit Text Editor. The files can be edited AND saved.

Opening, editing and saving an xls-File with WPS Office works, too.

Without knowing much of android internals, i'd assume the problem with MiXplorer is there. Knowing that, I can use another text editor (temporarily).

You made it happen! And you made it happen very quickly and your response time was awesome. THANK YOU!

Great to know, thanks! :) Yes, text editors need to support the content:// file types for it to work. Glad the other ones work!
