Hello,

I receive hundreds of e-mail notifications from several servers that I
monitor 24 hours a day. Some of these messages are more important that
others and I need to respond immediately, regardless of time-of-day.
In the subject line is <ALERT> along with a short description for the
messages I need to respond to quickly.

My question is; Will Tasker monitor a single word (<ALERT>) in the
subject line of an e-mail from Exchange 2007? And if so, will I be
able to have a different sounding alert sound when this message is
received?

I have recently moved from an iPhone to a Samsung Vibrant.

Any help will be appreciated.

In the current version (1.0.8) the only functionality Tasker has with
regard to incoming email is with the K-9 email client. I don't know
anything about K-9 (I've never used it), but it appears you could
setup Tasker to an incoming email with a subject matching a pattern.

What I have been able to do (and this, I am sure, is by no means the
best solution... just one that works for me) is to have important e-
mails forwarded to my text messaging on phone (use your search engine
of choice to figure the best configuration for you), and then have
Tasker have different alerts for different texts. I really can't give
you the specifics on my setup at the moment, as I set it up way back
when Tasker was in Beta form and use an outlook server instead of
exchange. This MAY or MAY NOT work for you. If you use certain after
market text messaging apps, you can block the alert notification from
that specific "text", and only have the Tasker notification. I set
this up early on only because I sometimes find myself working in
places where I get iffy data network connections. I found my emails
sometimes not coming through for half an hour or more. Text messages
always seem to work, and even though I can't get the WHOLE e-mail, I
get an alert of important e-mails. This allows me to excuse myself for
a moment, get a data connection, and get the whole e-mail.

Someone may have something more elegant, and I would greatly
appreciate the input.

This sounds like a good workaround. You could easily setup a filter
in Gmail (web interface on the desktop) to forward certain emails to
SMS.
