I've found that the iPhone Notifications app works better than the stock notifications on my GS2 running 4.0.4 because the app allows notifications to remain in the status bar long enough for me to read them. The problem is that no matter what I set the banner timeout to be, the banner never disappears and it's really annoying to manually dismiss every banner that comes across my screen. The developers say that it's likely due to a conflict with a customer lock screen so I'd like to know if I can bypass the issue using Tasker. Anyone have any idea how to create a profile that would do this?

You want to stop the ticker text hanging around at the top of the
screen ?
If so, you could try showing a notification with Tasker and then
cancel it straight away (Notify Cancel).

You can't directly cancel another app's notification.

Correct, I want to stop the ticker after it's been there for 10 seconds. I actually like the way the iPhone Notifications app scrolls the text ticker-style instead of displaying a single line at a time like the stock notifier does. Is it possible to create a Tasker profile to display the notifications this way and then dismiss after 10 seconds? If Tasker can't scroll the text ticker-style, can it repeat the notification until 10 seconds have passed?

You lost me, you want Tasker to display another app's notification ?
Sorry, no.
As I said, apps can't affect other apps notifications directly.

No, it can only make and cancel it's own notifications.

I was hoping Tasker could control the stock notifications from email. I've deleted the iPhone Notifications app so it's removed from the equation. Right now the stock email notifications are all that are displayed. I guess you're saying that Tasker won't be able to control those notifications either.

I am :-)

Android's security won't allow it.

Best you can do in this regard with email currently is use the K9
email client, then using the Tasker Email Received event you have more
control over the notifications.

Unfortunately, Tasker doesn't support other clients currently.

I'm actually using K9 Mail. Can Tasker control the display (such as ticker scrolling or speed) of the K9 notifications?

No, but if you disable notifications in K9 and generate them yourself
with Tasker, you can decide how long they're there for, which was your
original
query I think.
