Whenever I use the "Sound Effects" option in 'Audio Actions' and set
it to 'off', I get the error: "System setting not found:
sound_effects_enabled". Despite all of the volume options being set
to '0', I still get audible notifications (email, twitter, and texts)
when I want the phone to be silent.

I am running Froyo, rooted, on my HTC Incredible. However, I was
receiving this error on 2.1 (rooted and unrooted) as well as Froyo
while my phone was unrooted.

Is anyone else having this issue? I purchased tasker to create volume
profiles which aren't working. I'm a little frustrated.

Hi Joe,

(was tempted with Hey, forgive me)

Yes, I still have that on my shortlist to fix. I could reproduce it
once then never
again.

sound_effects only refers to the tap sound on keys etc. so it won't
help
the things you describe.

Have you unlinked Notification Volume from Ringer Volume in Android's
Audio settings ?

What are the actions you are using to silence the phone (please give
them
in order you are doing them) ? Do they work via the Test button in the
Tasks screen ?

> profiles which aren't working.  I'm a little frustrated.

Don't get frustrated, just come and ask.

I get asked where I'm going with that gun in my hand a lot... No
worries :)

*Based on sound_effects being key taps and such, it sounds like I
might be having a different issue.
*Notification Volume is unlinked from Ringer Volume
*This is my "sleep" profile which is to silence all of the phone but
the ringer and alarm:
1. Alarm Volume - 6
2. Notification Volume - 0
3. Media Volume - 0
4. Notification Pulse - Off
5. Vibrate on Notify - Off
6. Ringer Volume - 5
7. Vibrate on Ringer - On
8. System Volume - 0
9. Sound Effects - Off

If I remove Sound_Effects from the list, I do not receive the error
but I still get audible notifications. After doing a lot of testing,
it appears the notification noises are coming from twitter. If I look
at the volume levels before and after I enable the profile, the
Notification volume is set at 0. (I am using Twitter for Android).

I fear for your wife if applicable :-)

Looks fine to me. You won't get sound effects with system volume off
anyway
I think.

So if you look in Android settings, the notification volume is 0 but
Twitter is
still producing noises ? Does it send a notification at the same
time ? Perhaps
it's playing it's own sounds ?

Try the ringer and alarm volume too in case it's using those
channels :-)

You are correct, Notification Volume is 0 but Twitter is still making
noises (it does send a notification at the same time). It appears
it's tied to the ringer volume which sucks.

Surely I'm not the first person to come across this issue.

I did some research and it's a known issue with Twitter that the
Android app doesn't respect the Notification Volume.

Thanks for walking through this with me. I'm glad to know it's not an
issue with Tasker.

Not as much as me :-)
