A while back I asked about the annoying message "Trial period over" I was getting from Tasker and did more searching.

"Uninstall it and reinstall it.  That fixes it."

And I stupidly did that.

It worked, but I lost all my ....... projects.

(Moving on)

I am now totally confused with this new thing about notifications.

From the webpage with the docs:

```
If you use Android 8 or above you have to use the new Notification Category system.
A notification category is a mandatory feature of notifications that allows users to change notification features in Android Settings.
The first time the Category field is used in a Notify action, the category will be created in Android Settings with the settings (Sound, Vibration, LED, etc) set to those that are configured in the action. Subsequent uses of the same category will use the same settings, even if changed in the Tasker action.
To make it perfectly clear, an Android Notification Category's settings can never be changed by Tasker after it's first created. Only you, the user, can change those settings in the Android System Settings for Tasker.
By default Tasker will use the User Notifications category if the Category field is not filled in.
You will be warned if you create a notification without a category because, as mentioned above, the User Notifications category will be used and that category will be set up with default settings that can not be changed by Tasker.
To delete a category, bring up the category list by using the magnifying glass in the Category field and long click an item on the list.
```

CATEGORY.

Only you, the user, can change those settings in the Android System Settings for Tasker.

Ok, I'll put my hand up.

Where is that?

I have a Samsung S21 (ultra?) running Android 14

While on the subject of "NOTIFICATIONS".....

So I set some - now and then - and they are ONLY sounds played.

How do I get around the need for the text to be shown?

Unfortunately that advice should have been

  "  Back up + Uninstall it and reinstall it.  That fixes it."

Just so you are aware... A Tasker Back up "Does NOT"  Include any exported XML you have in your Tasker folder.  Those need to be manually saved If the Tasker "Folder" is going to be deleted.

It is a bit complicated until you use it a few times.

A few ways to get there..

From your android Settings  -> Apps  -> Tasker -> Notifications -> Notification Category's

From home screen - Long press Tasker Icon -> Information Icon top left ->  Notifications -> Notification Category's

Can you clarify what you are trying to do?

It sounds like you want to show a notification without showing the notification and only play a sound???

Very much correct.

Using `sound notify` I get the warning/message that it is now deprecated and to use the `notify` command.

So I have several situations where I am wanting a sound to be played (ONLY).
As I see it there is no way to have that happen without putting some text in the `TITLE` field.

(Sorry posted too soon)

Back to the original question:

Ok, followed the instructions.

Found the notifications.

How do I edit them if I accidentally entered the wrong sound file?

I had never used the Notify Sound  action. I did not realize it even existed.

If you wish to play just a sound only you can use the 'Music Play' action. Be sure to read the help text for that action so you know how to cancel it.

Once you have tapped on the notification category you wish to edit,  you should see a screen that will let you edit all the aspects of that category.  Tap the "Sound" option and it should show a file picker to select a different sound file.

Thanks....

I worked out the notification bit.   Sorry.   I am as thick as two bricks sometimes.

WRT the notification only being a sound.
I didn't think of that "trick".    Of course!   So simple.
I guess I was the opposite of you on this point.   :)

Much appreciated.
