2G / 3G switch : via build.prop + airplane mode ?

Hi,

I see in the ToDo page that 2G/3G switch control is still under
consideration.
Recently I switched from CyanoGenMod to MIUI, tragically losing that
already bundled, working feature.

Having absolutely no response from both Toggle2G and MIUI developers
about any chance to have it someday, I started looking for on my own.
I'm no developer, but looking around me a lot, I found an interesting
thing in build.prop ...

the value ro.telephony.default-network=X
where X would be the desired radio mode.

I'm still playing with it, yet it seems it is
1 = 2G only
3 = 2G / 3G based on best signal available
4 = WCDMA only (3G)

Other values are possible, but I'm out of skills to find out more.

So now I'd ask to you:
could Tasker be made to handle this modification to /system/build.prop
file (root required) + push the apply (perhaps switching airplane mode
on/off) even in a very experimental shape, in order to finally gain
control on the 2G/3G regardless the ROM being used ?

If that's possible, I hope this can "raise" the matter to some
imminent release :-)

If this is the only thing that is needed, then you should be to do it now, by calling a shell script that will do the dirty work (i.e. modify the build.prop file). Toggling airplane mode is possible from tasker.

One more comment: use LocaleExecute or SecureSettings plugins in order to have shell with root priviliges.

Is this standard across all phones/roms? I have a Thunderbolt and this is my default:

# Default network type.

# 8 => CDMA/EVDO/LTE auto mode preferred.

ro.telephony.default_network=8

Could we try to crowd source to get all the different settings?
