Hey, got tasker a while ago and trying to figure out how to do this:

When using Google Navigation (android - Samsung Vibrant), I sometimes
get a phone call and upon answering and talking, the GPS still speaks
in the background (the caller cannot hear it), but it is a constant
interruption and forces me to pause since it basically talks over me.

I know a lot of people love this feature and a lot of people hate it.
Seen posts out there stating why doesn't google offer a simple option
to either turn off the GPS voice during a phone call or even pause the
entire GPS until the call is over. Since this is not currently and
option, I am trying to figure out how to use Tasker to solve this.

I've tried setting it up already - such as going to the incoming call
option, turn down media volume, then upon exiting turn media volume
back up. Now I don't know if these are the correct choices, I thought
this would've solved it. But it actually crashes the entire phone and
I have to pull the battery to restart. The second the phone starts
ringing when using navigation, the screen goes black and freezes.

Can someone help with a profile for this? All I want is ANY
background voice/music, etc.. to temporarily stop when I receive and
answer a phone call, then turn back up when the call ends. Is it
possible? Thanks!!

There is a "Navigation Volume" that I have only seen accessible in the
navigation app itself. You may want to try setting the "System
Volume" in Tasker, or setting Silent Mode.

Create a new profile.

Context: Phone Hook ...
Context: Variable %NAVIGATION = 1

Task: Set Media volume = 0

Other profile

Context: Phone Idle
Context: Variable %NAVIGATION = 1
Task: Set Media Volume = 200

That's the basic idea :)

Silent Mode won't work because it does not turn off the media volume.

Thanks for responding with this. I am confused though, how to set up
the 2nd context, meaning the "Context: Variable %NAVIGATION = 1"

I can set up the context: Phone hook but then it goes to the next
screen and only allows me to add a task. How do I add another context
to get this to work?

Thanks!

Continue setting up the task as if you only wanted one context. Once
you return to the profile list, tap the existing context for the
profile and select Add.
