I have searched around on this but haven't had success.  Most of my profiles so far are location-centric, and I keep a log file of the locations I've been to and a lot of debugging information about how I figured out where I've been.  I have a profile that runs every Sunday night at 11:59 to rename the current log file and start a new log for the upcoming week.

I would like to upload (share) the renamed file to Google Drive, but just can't figure out the right intent.  I saw the post regarding Google Now and will try some things from that, but meanwhile, can anyone help?

I use FolderSync. It has a Tasker plugin and works well.

Thanks baudi.  I had seen FolderSync in my research, but was hoping for a native Tasker solution.  Will check it out again.

I'd be interested in what you discover. I'm stymied by the oauth stuff and the ever-changing google api.

baudi --- installed FolderSync Lite today and after about 10 minutes of playing with that I installed the paid version with the Tasker plug-in.  FolderSync by itself seems pretty amazing.  I am using it with Google Drive to keep my Tasker System and User logs backed up, and also to keep my pictures synced up.  I like that I can take a picture and about 60 seconds later it's on my laptop, with no intervention from me.

I'm still on an unlimited data plan, but it's nice that FolderSync can restrict folder pairings to updating only on WiFi.  Still a few kinks here and there (try renaming a directory in the file manager), but a really well thought out and useful application.

I'm thinking about installing FolderSync on my wife's phone and sharing my Google Drive, so that when I take a picture, it shows up in her phone as if she took it.  Just debating if that's a good idea or not :).

Will find out tonight how the plug-in works.  This all started because I wanted to back up my logs every Sunday at 11:59pm when I cut over to a new log file for the upcoming week.  So I added the FolderSync command to my cut-over task and will find out in the morning how it worked.

I've found that it's better to set a schedule for FolderSync and let it handle everything. If you do that, it will try to recover from failed sync attempts on its own.

By the way, you can use an "SMB" account in FolderSync to connect to your home computer (when you are at home) to do backups there.

Yeah that is exactly what i do. My previous phones had SD cards so i could use the SD card when I got a new phone and my Tasker backups could be easily imported to my new phone. My latest phone however the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have the SD card slot so i wanted a way to back them up. I planned on buying the paid version of folder sync and see about using Tasker move the Tasker backups to my Google drive. I download the free version to poke around and found that i could schedule syncs through the app alone and don't even need to purchase the paid version.  I can leave tasker out of it completely.

Thanks baudi, good advice.  In any case, I thought my FolderSync call had failed last night, but discovered that my own error had aborted the task long before the call to the FolderSync plug-in.  I have since fixed my bug and verified the FolderSync plug-in works as advertised, but still better to just put FolderSync on a schedule and forget about it.

BTW, what's an SMB account? Not sure I need anything at home, but just curious.  I am using FolderSync only with Google Drive, and there's no way Google's 5GB will do me any good in terms of backing up my laptop/home computers.  For that I use the MozyHome 125GB plan.

SMB is a standard network protocol that allows devices to share files on a network. In FolderSync, go to Accounts, click the cloud symbol at the bottom of the screen, select SMB, and enter the server name or ip address for the computer on your network that you want to connect to. Then click Validate Login and you'll be asked to login to your home computer (if you have it password protected). After that, all the files and folders on your home computer are available to FolderSync and you can upload, download, sync, etc. You could, for example, set it up to do a one-way sync of everything on your sdcard from your phone to your home computer every night while you are sleeping, which is what I do. You could even use your phone to back up some files on your home computer if your sdcard is large enough.

Thanks baudi, great idea.  Now let's leave this non-Tasker conversation alone....

This app does it very well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ttxapps.drivesync&hl=en

(Uploads the new/modified stuff in a specified folder to Google Drive instantly over any network.)
