Hi there,

Wondering if any of you can help.  I'm a relative newbie to Tasker...

My aim
I want to create a profile that does the following: When I modify a file (e.g., annotate a PDF file), that file is then synced to my cloud account (OneDrive).

My setup
I have the FolderSync app, within which I have created a folderpair that syncs any item in a folder (say, /Books) to my OneDrive cloud account, when I manually request it to. (The instant sync option with FolderSync doesn't work.)

My attempts
So far, I've tried creating a profile which uses the event file modified (which points to my directory /Books) to trigger my 'foldersync' task, which comprises the action to sync my particular folderpair.

My problem(s)
- This profile doesn't do anything.
- I thought maybe Tasker doesn't let file modified point to a whole directory (/Books) so tested pointing instead to a particular file (/Books/x.pdf), but changes to that file did not initiate the task either.
- I thought maybe there's a problem with the task, so I paired the event trigger with a simple task (launch YouTube app), but the task still didn't launch.
- I also tried the 'run an action' option from the menu dialogue, but although it ran simple actions (like launching an app), it wouldn't run the folderpair task set in the FolderSync plugin.

My thoughts
There are several problems here.  At base, I can't get the FolderSync plug-in's tasks to initiate at all.  But even if I could, I can't seem to get any event triggers which use file modified to work (whether with files or directories)!  If anyone could help me out with either of these issues, that would be super helpful.

Many thanks,
James

Maybe start by making sure Tasker is enabled. In the main Tasker screen the icon in the top left should be colorized and not greyed out. Long-press it if so.

Yes, it's definitely enabled (I may be a newbie but I knew to do that much!)

Are you trying folders/files in a "weird" location (like an external SD card or in your root directory or something)? Maybe try a file in the Tasker folder to check.

I'm not, no. It's just a normal folder on the internal memory.

I've been trying different things... Can get the file closed and file opened event contexts to trigger tasks like opening an app; indeed, I can get them to launch one of my folderpairs and it works fine, appears in the run log, etc., but not the folderpair I want (a sync from local directory to remote--OneDrive--directory).  What's weird about this latter case is I can see the task as having launched in the run log, but no actual folderpair syncing occurs.

Another thing I can't get to do is launch any tasks/actions using the event context file modified or file attribute changed at the directory level (so that when I change a file--save an annotation on a PDF--in that directory, an automatic sync happens). I'm starting to wonder whether this is a OneDrive problem, so will probably try a Google Drive/Dropbox folderpair soon.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Folder Sync?

Test you profile with someothe file, to know if it is working (say a .txt). I belive that yor proble is that the anotation may not be save inside the files, that depends on the soft that you use.
