Tasker not detecting location

I set up a profile to change settings when I get to work and set a
large radius to be sure it has the whole property. I also have another
profile that only enables GPS when I use a program that needs it. Do
I need to add Tasker to this list or would that make the GPS on all
the time since Tasker is always running? It seems hit or miss that it
runs my work profile. My understanding is that you can have GPS off
and tasker will pop it on periodically to check location. I just need
to make sure that profile works since yesterday it did not and my
phone was volume inappropriate in a meeting.

No, if you disable GPS it respects your decision in this case :-)

I have a todo list entry though:

*** either: toggle gps parameter for location context OR auto-scan
when GPS comes on (also when off)

If you have your meetings in the calendar you might want to consider
the Calendar Entry state.

Thanks. I just added one to get my GPS fix. We will see if this
works:
Context: From 7:00 every 15m Till 00:00
Task: Get Location, Source: Any, Timeout 1000

Not sure if it will work or not without the GPS being on.

No, you can't get a fix without GPS.

And the fix you get via Get Location won't be used by the location
context, it will try and get it's own fix.

I have a similar situation. While I am at work, I have WiFi and GPS
off so I can't use them to determine when I have left to go home. I
tried the Cell Near and Net Location, but since I lose cell signal
quite often, I erroneously thought I had left several times last
night. Can't use those.

My only solution is to have GPS turned on occasionally to check my
location. What I want to do to keep it from cycling all the time is
to give it a few other contexts. Since I would likely be plugged in
and horizontal when leaving work, I figure that would be a good place
to start. It gets complicated after that. I want the GPS to cycle on
for 30 seconds every 5 minutes if horizontal and power is plugged.
When it sees my GPS location as having left the vicinity of my work a
profile would see that and change a mode (and variable) to Work. When
that occurs GPS gets turned on full time, but how do I stop that 30sec/
5min cycle?

How would I go about setting up a task that every 15 minutes it
enables GPS for 3 minutes?

I think if the confusion is like mine was, it's that the Action "Get
Location" doesn't do anything but fill the built in variable %LOC with
coordinates. Although it would be slick to be able to run a Tasker
poll for location via an action, I'm gathering that's all done at a
regular interval that the user decides via Tasker's settings.

If I'm wrong, please set me straight!
