Hi, I'm trying to take a picture with the front camera if someone enters a wrong pattern (wit secure settings) but I tested it and there were no images in the galery. So I simply ran the task in the tasker to see if it's fine and I noticed it takes about 6 seconds to take a picture. That's crazy long for a discreet picture. I tried fiddling with all settings but it still takes exactly 6 seconds. Any solutions to this?

PS - I tried entering wrong patterns and waited 7 seconds and still didn't get the picture clicked.

Photos are in JPG format and stored in /sdcard/dcim/Tasker/. You should not attach the .jpg affix when specifying the filename prefix.

Are you looking in the tasker folder for the pics?

It takes about 2.5 seconds to take the pic on my device. I am running this task with the play button in the task edit screen.

Take Pic (565)
A1: Take Photo [ Camera:Front Filename:testpic Naming Sequence:Series Insert In Gallery:On Discreet:On Resolution:320x240 Scene Mode:Auto White Balance:Auto Flash Mode:Off Focus Mode:Fixed ]

I have a rooted Motorola Droid 4 / Stock ROM   / Tasker  /  Version: 4.7u3m / Android version 4.1.2

Could you also post your exported task and how you are running it.

To post your profile or task here...  Long press on the profile or task name / ( 3 dot menu with 4.0+ ) export / export "DESCRIPTION" to clipboard (not XML)

Any linked tasks will be exported with the profile they are linked to..

To be able to export, The beginner mode needs to be off and the profile needs to be named by you (Not the Tasker listed name.  Tasker will list your profile with the context name if you have not given it one).

Thanks for the detailed guide. I have a rooted Xolo Q900s Plus and I am looking at the Tasker's directory where I have images I took with the play button. There's no affix and task details are pasted below.

Profile: Login Failed (17)
State: Secure Settings [ Configuration:Failed Login Attempts - Max: 1 ]
Enter: Take Photo (18)
A1: Take Photo [ Camera:Front Filename:failedlogin Naming Sequence:Chronological Insert In Gallery:Off Discreet:On Resolution:1200x1600 Scene Mode:Auto White Balance:Auto Flash Mode:Auto Focus Mode:Fixed ]

I bumped up my resolution and it seemed to add about .5 to 1 second. So I am at about 3 seconds.  Testing by pushing play button counting to 3 one thousand then cover camera with hand.

I've tried lowering the resolution but I too get about 0.5s of difference. Maybe it depends on the CPU of the phone. And about actually taking photos with failed login attemts, I checked the log and the profile is not getting triggered at all.

Secure Settings is the device administrator and Max number of login attempts is 1, still the condition is not triggering with 2 or 3 attempts with more than 5 dots connected. I'll see why that is not working.

Do you have Secure Settings enabled in Android Device Administrators?

Also, which Android version are you using? I know google broke this feature in 5.0 and then fixed it in 5.1

Yes. Ss is enabled as a device administrator and my android version in 4.4.3 rooted.

I've discovered that ss is not working at all. It isn't even toggling gps. I've started a thread for that in xda for this problem..

Here I'm more concerned about the time it takes to take a picture.

I get a consistent 4 seconds independent of resolution.

That's on a Samsung Note 4 LP 5.1.1

Any idea what the reason might be behind this difference in time?

I would guess each device will take a different amount of time to initiate the camera. FYI - at best my device takes approximately 3 seconds, Nexus 4 Android 4.4.4

Perhaps you could could put up a scene or pop up with a lengthy message in fine print to get the the user keep looking at the camera for a few more seconds..

+S Williams - I suppose that's right

+Rich D - Thanks Rich that's a good idea. I'll think of something clever to keep that pesky interference looking lol

Have you checked the camera delay in Tasker preferences, action tab?
