Checkout Variable data processing (its something like that on pocketables.com)

Just search Tasker and you should easy find it.

Great tutorial on how to read/write to a file

What exactly are you looking for?

If you have read the tutorial and have specific questions on it then ask those..

If you have already written a tasker profile and  are having problems with it then post that description here with specifics on what you need help with..

Could you post your profile here...  Long press on the profile name / ( 3 dot menu with 4.0+ ) export / export description to clipboard (not XML)

The beginner mode needs to be off and the profile needs to have a name to be able to export.

I have variables in an app and I want to have a button to write them to a text file.
Then I want to have a load button to load the variables from a text file.

Is this a app from the tasker App factory?

and I want to have a button to write them to a text file.

I would use an array with a For loop and the 'write file' action.

I would you in array with a for loop And the 'read line' action

Short nondescript questions will most likely yield short nondescript answers...

Yes it's an app factory app.

Thanks. I am going to try to work on this now.

Reading/writing in a loop would assume that I have variable names that allow for this....

Correct that would be an array..

If you only have a few you can simply write them and read them without the loop..

I personally think that when you constantly post help requests to develop an app you charge a mind boggling $20 for, you should add a disclaimer so that whoever answers you know that they are assisting the development of a rather premium priced app, for free. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would then decline helping, but I seem to be the only one aware of the circumstances around your request.

I appreciate that comment but I don't agree with you 100%.

I think if you look at a lot of forums on the Internet for developers, people post questions related how to make things.

I appreciate and respect your decision not to help me.  Trust me.  It's your life and time.  I also respect your idea of putting a disclaimer but I think other people for the same reasons at time.  And not all my questions are related to making an app.  Some are related to just personal phone automation stuff....

A disclaimer simply makes sure people have all the information. Surely it's not a problem to include such a thing if you don't think it will affect what people do...and if you do think it will affect what people do, that only goes to prove it was needed to begin with.

I have no problem putting a disclaimer in but I also think that if you feel this is a concern I shouldn't be singled out.  Pent should pin a thread requesting that....

What app have you made? $20 for a Tasker-made-app has got me curious, any app that costs that much actually

It's Called voicer pro. It's an app to integrate android with a control4 home automation system.   There is also a free version.

Not trying to be a dick, but $20 is pretty steep for that. Like over 90° steep.
I know you'll say that Pent should tell you to, but I think you should at least mention Tasker/AutoVoice in your app description

What are you determining steep based on?  Have you installed the app?  Have you looked at competitors?  I am competing with people selling $100 annual subscription apps, $150 hardware solutions, $700 hardware solutions...so I think $20 is pretty fair.

I am not using AutoVoice....

And again, I'm sorry to say it but Pent doesn't have anything that requires you to disclose that an app is a kid of tasker....if so, I would.

also, I should add that this is part of a home automation system that costs easily over 5k to get it to do anything interesting....

From the guide......

Licence

You are free to distribute and sell apps created by Tasker in any way you wish. No licence fees to the developer of Tasker are necessary.

It would be courteous to reference Tasker and it's website (http://tasker.dinglisch.net) somewhere in your new app if possible.

Please note that use of images from some Ipacks in commercial software is prohibited by the licence terms of the image creators. You will need to contact the image designer to request their assent in such cases. (the origin of an Ipack's images is displayed in the Ipack image selection screen).

Tasker's builtin icons are mostly from the Crystal Project, please check the licence terms on their website

I am going to update now.

Steep based on this being a child app of a $6 app.
Again, not trying to be a dick but judging on your original question I'm going to assume this is far from a complex setup.

Also subjectively steep based on this not being a traditional Android app. There are limitations with Tasker child apps; they may never truly affect one specific app, but it's always a possibility, ESPECIALLY when it comes to multi device compatibility.

Also subjectively steep based on so much of its development being based on the free help of a community where charging anything at all for what's created with the base apps is not common.

Also subjectively steep based on people risking mistakes like when you rendered an entire listing of your app completely unusable forever with some license file mistake or whatever it was.

Despite all that, I'm sure the $20 is worth it to those who buy the app. I have no problems paying that much for an app that I really need, heck I bought a $30 dictionary app just yesterday. I just think that in a community that is based around sharing and helping for personal use, it's not an unreasonable request for people to identify themselves as for-profit users when posting for help with paid projects.

Btw, I think Mike and Rich both misunderstood your original question

Rich D

Nicely stated... I agree with all of the above but not so much for the $20 charge for the application, I believe the market will set the price for that. If it proves to fill a need that people will pay $20 for I think that's great, It is the full disclosure ( or lack of) that I really have an issue with. To not mention that this is a tasker-based app is just wrong in my opinion. First off he should be giving credit where credit is due, along with the fact if I was spending $20 on a application I would most likely do a little investigation on it and knowing it was tasker based would address most of the issues listed above as well.

The other issue I have with this post would be, if someone is capable of making a Tasker app and publishing it they should certainly know better than to post short nondescript questions that waste peoples time. I really only put as much time into my response as he put into his first question however that time could have been better spent on a proper question with details of what has been tried and what is and is not working. This is forgivable for someone new to posting questions, however I do not think the OP fits that description...
