I usually start with looking through the logcat to see if it shows anything about the intent being sent after you press the widget.

Would you be able to give me an example of what to look for? I'm already familiar with using intents, but with prescribed how to's, so you don't need to teach me everything.

Probably start with searching the log for anything sent by the app you care about, likely identified by package name.
