After many years of using Tasker without issues, I suddenly can’t set the notification sound via Tasker anymore. It started failing yesterday with an error I’ve never seen before.

Device: Samsung S23 Ultra, fully up to date. No system updates were installed recently, so the issue appeared out of nowhere. I’m attaching a screenshot that shows the exact error.

The only change on my side is that I paired a new JBL Bluetooth speaker shortly before this started. I’m wondering if Android might have reassigned notification audio routes or priorities, causing Tasker to lose access or behave differently. That’s just a guess, though.

I’ve already tried unpairing the speaker, restarting the phone, re-granting all permissions (including Write Secure Settings via adb and Tasker Permissions Portable app), but nothing changes.

Any ideas? I could really use some help on this one.

Hi. What version of Tasker are you using? Did you  use a notification category in the action?

Thank you for your contact.

My Tasker version is 6.5.11 from Google Play.
In My Task Im using Catergory:  -> Audio -> Default Ringtone -> Type Notification. I was using it like that for the last 10+ years with no issues.
When I add new Task I dont see "Notification" category please see below screenshot:

Oh, sorry, I thought you were using the Notify action, I misread. Does it work if you give Tasker the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission?

As I mentioned in the first post, re-granting the permissions unfortunately doesn’t help. I confirmed that Tasker has the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission, using both the app you created and manual ADB granting. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t work. It’s a very strange error that such a trivial function suddenly stopped working. I have dozens of tasks (over 60 at the moment), many of them use various permissions, and all of them work fine. Only this notification ringtone setting broke. Setting the ringtone and the alarm works normally.

Unfortunately I can only assume it's something related to the system itself that updated because the Tasker version you're using is a few months old... :(
