Hi there.

I'm farely new to the tasker. But just reading all the profiles and whta tasker can do I came to an idea. What if tasker could gather network carrier info for my country and then force the phone to use "FAVORITE-CARRIER" instead of the "ROAMING-ONE". The problem I'm facing in real life is following:

My network carrier only has limited amount of antennas. So when I  go out of the range it switches to roaming mode and it connects to "ROAMING-ONE" carrier. But it won't switch back to the "FAVORITE-CARRIER". I have to do it manually from network settings. And that is annoying. I've called the carrier help but they didn't know how to help me. I also have limited knowladge about network carriers so point me to the right direction.

I know Tasker can search cells and it's IDs but can it also search network carrier's names? So the task would go like this:

example of how would I do it (WHEN DATA IS ON) if it were possible:
-> search for the network carriers names
-> select "FAVORITE-CARRIER" and save it to a variable. // favorite carrier could be selected or written down like "VIP"
-> compare the content of this variable with current used carrier. IF names don't match appy favorite carrier.

That's the first step then I'd have to optimise it for battery. The questions that arise are:
- how to set the interval when in roaming mode and data is on:
     > Search for favorite carrier every minute, every 5 minutes
     > Search for favorite carrier exponatonally: 1min, 2min, 4min, 16?

But first would be even possible to search for network carrier's names and then connect to a network carrier? I've rooted phone (thought I would mention this).

If this is not possible with tasker, could I do it programatically and wrote an app for it?

Well there's no magic to it. Not sure if all of this can be done in Tasker, but there might be some possibility.

Every cell ID contains a 5-digit MCC+MNC code. First three numbers are for country (Mobile Country Code), last two for network operator (Mobile Network Code) - the whole list you can find at www.mcc-mnc.com . Strip that number out of the cell ID (can Tasker truncate strings?), and you have the carrier code of the tower. Match this against your favourite carrier, and connect to that tower.

I tried with Cell near but all I get is something like this:
GSM:100.660772/0
PSC:385 / 0
PSC:119 / 0
PSC:15 / 0
PSC:118 / 0
GSM:100.76080 / 2
PSC:87 / 0
PSC:113 / 0
PSC:114 / 0
PSC:78 / 0
PSC:76 / 0

What is the meaning of these numbers? What would here be country code or mobile network code?
