Hi!

I think it's better, if the Tasker can automatically backup its profiles and tasks to the cloud, just like the NFC Task Launcher app. In case if the SD card wipes or corrupted, then no need to worry.

Thanks!

Dropspace / Dropsync have both Tasker plugins that you can use to do this yourself. I use Foldersync to upload my profiles to my computer every night.

You can setup Tasker to create it's own backups on the phone. Then use foldersync to send them to the cloud. That is the method i use to move my tasker backups to Google drive.

There something absolutely glorious about using Tasker to add a feature that's missing from Tasker! Hurray!

I built a profile to back up my profiles, but I still have to manually create the backup.  Is there a way to use tasker to automatically create a new backups?  Are the auto backups the only option?

I see this topic is very old, but since it still comes up in search results, I wanted to make known that the latest release as of this posting (version 5.5 as I compose this on 8 Nov 2018), the built-in Tasker Task for Data Backup has a GOOGLE DRIVE ACCOUNT option.  Simply enter a folder name and then enter your Google Drive account, Tasker does the rest.  Tasker will place the backup in the speicifed folder on the cloud.  If the folder does not exist, Tasker automatically creates it.

Thank you :) Also, you have an automatic backup option in Preferences -> Misc

Oops spoke to soon. Tasker Preferences/Misc select Google Drive Backup it asks for which account if you have more than one. Tap Ok to permissions and your done. I didn't realize it was there and needed to be enabled. My expectation is my icons will be backed up.

I used this magic just yesterday when I set up a new tablet.  The old tablet had already been doing automatic backups of Tasker's configs.  When I set up that tablet's replacements, I simply restored that backup to the new tablet.  Just a few clicks and Tasker in the new one is exactly like the old one.

Thanks again for this functionality!

So it restores Profiles, Tasks, Variables, Tasker settings - everything?

Actually, if I were to restore my Profiles and Tasks to a new device, would the global variables be recreated, e.g. without doing anything like this?

Yes, as long as those variables were created by those tasks. Some users, however, like to create globals 'by hand'.

For instance, I have a global that contains my email address and another that contains my home SSID. I use them in posted tasks so I don't post private info.

Personally, I have never found the need to backup my globals.

When you say that a variable is "created" by a task, would that include if a task does a "Variable Set"?

The only reason you need to manually create your global variables is if you want them to start with specific data. Variables are automatically "created" when they are mentioned within a task, but they don't contain a value until your task sets the variable. I have a set of variables that I always want to start with specific values when I boot my device. I have a special task for this purpose that runs at boot time, so that I don't need to manually set them up.
