Google Assistant has started returning search results when I use the "Run SomeTask in Tasker" action

Using Tasker 5.12.7-beta, Google Assistant has stopped responding to "Run SomeTask in Tasker" type actions and just returns search results. Have I messed up some setting somewhere?

It should still be working. Can you give me an example of a command you're running so I can test? Thanks

(I've updated Tasker to version 5.12.8-beta, with no change to this issue.)

I've made a task in Tasker called "Radiator" which, so far, just executes a Say action.

I've made a routine in Google Assistant that's started by me saying, "Hey Google, I've turned the radiator on", and which responds with the "Try adding your own" action "Run Radiator in Tasker". (I've also tried using "Do" and "Start" instead of "Run", with the same lack of results.)

Google assistant responds with search results for "Radiator".

This is also happening with other Google Assistant routines invoking Tasker that previously worked as expected.

(Further, delving into the Explore settings for Google Assistant and searching for "Tasker" brings up a "Run test in Tasker" example which, when clicked, also gives me a search result – and I do have a task called "test" in Tasker.)

Does it work if you don't use a routine and say the command directly? It's all still working for me... 😕

Yes, the same happens when I say "Hey Google, run radiator in Tasker".

I seem to remember having to set something up in Google assistant to have it recognise Tasker (and AutoVoice before that) when I first started using this feature. Is it possible I've messed that setting up somehow? I can't remember what it was, though.

Thanks

Tasker requires no setup. It should simply work. To note that this only works in english. Are you using english?

Yes, English.

I guess I was thinking of linking my Google account to AutoVoice when I talked about an initial setup.

Google Assistant just doesn't seem to recognise Tasker as an app it can run and send data to any more.

Thanks for your time

Very strange. Does it maybe help if you re-install Tasker?

A simple reinstall of 5.12.8-beta hasn't helped.

Once I've figured how to backup all my Tasker stuff properly, I'll try installing some earlier versions, and, I suppose, an uninstall and reinstall if that doesn't work.

Thanks again

It's strange because I would say that re-installing wouldn't help at all with this since this is not version dependent :( If Google is not even calling Tasker then that indicates that it's a problem on Google's end, and not Tasker's...

I can confirm "Hey Google, run radiator in Tasker" is still working on my device as well.

Version: 5.12.8-beta

Regarding the reinstall (by which I meant a clean reinstall, wiping Tasker from my phone and then reintalling it), I was thinking that Tasker has to do something to tell Google Assistant that it's available through commands like Run and Start, and that it'll respond to parameters indicated by With and And. I thought that maybe a reinstall might get Tasker to redo that, but if you say that's not the case, I won't bother.

But perhaps there's a way to re-initialise Tasker in/for/with Google Assistant without doing a reinstall?

Thanks

Well, it's worth a try to see if Google "notices" the app again. I just thought that it would not make a difference to go back to the non-beta because of this... :)

I guess I'm too nervous to do the clean reinstall for this, at least until I have to, or perhaps when the next release version of Tasker comes out. I've replaced my assistant routines that involved Tasker with my own AutoVoice versions (which work far better anyway). There's just one thing I'm missing, which is a way to start my AutoVoice "assistant" via a Google Assistant routine.

Thanks

Hi. What is not working about that exactly? What happens when you try?

I'd been using Google Assistant to run the Tasker task I use to start it, but now Google Assistant has started returning search results when in try to invoke Tasker.

Oh sorry, I meant what about saying "Talk to autovoice" or "Ask Autovoice to do something or other"?

When I tried doing this via AutoVoice it'd only work sometimes. After Google Assistant sent the command mostly I'd see a brief flash of a message to the effect that AutoVoice had terminated the conversation (or something like that) before it was overwritten by a GA message saying "done". It did, however, work as expected on a few occasions. I haven't figured out the pattern.

I've got Google Assistant to run an app that I made from a task. The app sends an intent to Tasker, which then runs the task I want (hence my question about messaging between apps in another thread, which you also kindly answered). This is more aesthetically pleasing than having Google Assistant invoke Tasker or AutoVoice (in terms of the chatter generated by Google Assistant, which now just refers to the app by name when starting it), so I'm happy with that.

Well.

I've just cleared the cache for the Google app on my phone, and now "Run SomeTask in Tasker" is working again.

I've been having the same issue, "run test in tasker" just returns search results from assistant. Clearing the Google App cache didn't help in my case.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling tasker, restarting phone, clearing cache again. Nothing.

Unfortunately it's not something I control, sorry :( It must be a bug on Google's side.

I guess I was lucky in that just a cache clear fixed it for me. I hesitate to suggest going further, like clearing the data, as I expect this'd mean a whole lot of work setting up the app again. I've really no idea what that might entail.
