I saw a thread here mentioning how you can issue a reboot with the
Execute plugin using !reboot. I decided to see if !shutdown would
work and indeed it does. Could be useful for those who want to do a
bump charge overnight provided you don't need your phone's alarm to
wake you up that day. I almost never bump charge because I'm always
using my phone to listen to podcasts or because it's my only phone at
home and don't want to be unreachable, but this would do the trick on
a Saturday night.

The only thing is that it shuts down your phone very quickly. It's
not like when you do it the regular way. So I can't be certain that
it's shutting down properly or not, though I haven't noticed any ill
effects from it on my dinc.

So did this work out okay? I'll buy Tasker just for this function if
so...

I don't like leaving my phone on overnight while it's charging but
since installing Cyanogen I have to. I'd love a way to have the phone
shut itself down once charging is complete.

Does't work for me (rooted Tattoo, CM6, Froyo 2.2.1)

!reboot does exactly what it should;
!shutdown displays the command on the screen as it executes BUT only
shows !shutdow [no n] although this is the correct syntax.

Well it does work for me, but as I stated previously, I'm unable to
tell if the shutdown is doing everything it's supposed to do. It
could be that the screen is simply blanked out much faster and
everything is still happening or it could be a shutdown without any of
the shutdown scripts that normally execute. I never investigated the
issue fully and have just opted to not shutdown in this manner.

I am new to Tasker and I want to shutdown the phone when the battery
is full and it is charging. I have the conditions set but what task do
I use to send the !SHUTDOWN command.

After thinking about this further, my initial request was flawed. Even
if I knew how to make Tasker shut down my phone when full charge was
reached, it would still boot itself back into ClockworkMod Recovery
since it would still be plugged in.

But that's because of a bug in CW Mod. Ideally, your phone should not
boot into Clockwork when shutdown and connected to charger!

The only method that worked for me to get it to shutdown was to use
the command "!reboot -p" (without quotes). The -p tells it to power
off rather than complete the reboot cycle.

What 'plugin' do you need to do this and where can I get it?

I want to bump charge my phone and plan on having it turn off every
morning at 6 am (30 minutes) before I get up.

Locale Execute

note:you must have root for this to work.

Thanks for the help. Can not get this to work on my rooted DINC. !
reboot displays !reboot text but does not reboot or shutdown. !
shutdown immediately shuts down the phone BUT it won't power up
without first pulling the battery. Any suggestions? I am new at this
and don't want to brick my phone.

Thanks. I can not get it to work on my DINC. With the !reboot command
it just displays !reboot but does not shutdown or reboot. With the !
shutdown command it immediately shuts down the phone, BUT it won't
power back on without pulling the battery.

I read something about installing busybox to gain the reboot command,
but honestly don't know too much about this and was afraid of bricking
my phone. Can anyone walk me through it.

Are you using the Execute plugin for the task?  If so, run the task manually first and wait about 10 seconds or so.  It should trigger Superuser to ask you whether you want to allow Locale Execute to have root.  Say yes and make sure the remember checkbox is checked.
