This may be way off the path, but I recently received an update to my Fire HD 10 that adds "Show Mode" functionality. I currently have my non-rooted Fire HD set up with the Google Play store patches, running Nova launcher with LauncherHijack. The Show Mode basically turns a Fire HD 8/10 into an Amazon Echo Show/Spot. I believe it does this by starting a new launcher when the Show Mode option is enabled in the status bar pull-down. Note that this option is not in the "settings" group. If you buy one of Amazon's overpriced charging stands, an adapter is included that allows the Fire HD to be charged wirelessly. So when the Fire HD is placed in the stand, it begins charging and is automatically put into Show Mode.

Here's my question: since I opted not to buy the stand, I just use a generic tablet stand and plug in the tablet for charging. About 50% of the time I use it in Show Mode and the other 50% of the time I use it as a tablet (Show Mode off). I have set Tasker to enable Bluetooth (for a speaker) when power (any) is true and disable when power (any) is false. But I can't find any way to set Show Mode enabled when power (any) is true and disabled when power (any) is false. Since Show Mode is not an Android "setting" is there any Tasker function (or Tasker companion app) that can access the Show Mode function to turn if off and on?

A correction: When the Fire HD is docked, it is charged via two contacts in the dock. Thus, this is not being done wirelessly. But unfortunately, it is not put into Show Mode when a charging cable is directly plugged into the tablet.

Probably a long shot, but van you please follow the adb shell settings list procedure here so I can include all of your tablet's settings in the next Tasker build?

Maybe one of them will do the trick :)
Thanks in advance!

Well, this is interesting. I'm having a problem with the adb shell command on the Fire HD.

C:\adb>adb shell settings list system
usage:  settings [--user NUM] get namespace key
settings [--user NUM] put namespace key value
settings [--user NUM] delete namespace key

'namespace' is one of {system, secure, global}, case-insensitive
If '--user NUM' is not given, the operations are performed on the owner user.

I am running adb on a Windows 10 machine with the tabled attached. The tablet has developer options enabled and Enable ADB is also enabled. There is no USB Option to set file transfer (MTP), but the tablet shows up in the Windows devices list and files can be transferred to the tablet via File Manager. Plugging my Galaxy S8 into the computer and running the "adb shell settings list system" command works fine. Any ideas?

After doing some digging, I found out that the Show Mode Dock for the Fire HD includes a 9W charging adapter rather than the 5W adapter that comes with the tablet. I was curious how the tablet knew that it was docked (rather than connected to a charging cable) and hence, would start Show Mode automatically. This wattage difference may be the answer. I have ordered the 9W adapter and when it gets here on Wednesday, I'll check it out. Even if that switches the tablet to Show Mode when connected, I wonder if it turns off Show Mode when disconnect. We shall see. :-)

I received the 9W adapter today but the tablet still doesn't automatically switch to Show Mode when power is connected. So I have no idea how Amazon senses that the tablet is in its dock.

I still an unable to run any of the "adb shell settings list" commands. The only response I receive is shown below. But I did noticed that "list" is not one of the adb shell settings options (only get, put and delete).

Any ideas?

Wow, so Amazon must've disabled that command on their devices... That's a shame... :/

I agree...and it's a shame too. There are (probably) millions of really good, inexpensive Android tablets out there that unfortunately are named Amazon Fire HD.

I may try using the "get" option to see if I can get any values at all. Is there any key that you are particularly interested in?

No, sorry :( The list would be the only way to find out what different setting that particular tablet may have so that Tasker could be able to detect them in the future...
