You can now turn on or off the nest, set home or away, or even adjust to a specific temperature.

FINALLY!

Alright I tried this and I ran into a problem.  Manually when I send a SMS message the corresponding number with #nest (then temp I want it changed to) it works fine.  However when I set it up in Tasker I am having a problem setting  a variable in the SMS subject.  It literally spelled out the variable instead of putting one in it.  How can I accomplish this?

You can send a SMS or email to trigger the heat go up or down.  You can also have it set when you are home or away.

Do I need any special hardware for this?
Does IFTTT has a plugin for tasker?

IFTTT has some interesting features, but it does not have any Tasker integration at this point, and is more limited on Android than Tasker is. If they ever publish intents or a Tasker plugin, it would be a lot more interesting. But I think the developer views it more as a competitor to Tasker, so I don't expect to see integration any time soon.

Which developer ? Not this developer :-)

I contacted them several years ago, got fobbed off. Now all they have is a huge form for 'prospective partners' to fill in
so I can't be bothered.

IFTTT is interesting, but currently very limited with only one "if" and only one "that". And they only support event types of if, with no exit task. They either need to add more functionality to their app, or implement Tasker integration.

You should tell them that if you can find a contact point of some kind :-)

The only way I've seen to contact them is to place a comment on their blog. I saw a few Tasker related comments there around the time the Android app was released, and the developer or spokesperson indicated they wanted to be a Tasker replacement. Ha!
