Make a tasker action to lower all notification sounds but not phone ring tone. Have that run on a schedule

Thanks, I wasn't sure whether this was possible to do with Tasker or not since it isn't with Locale. I'll give it a try.

I added two tasks to a profile:

1. Notification Volume -> 0
2. Vibrate On Notify -> Off

The phone doesn't make a notification sound, but it still vibrates.

Any ideas?

Did you exit out of tasker and go back into tasker before trying it? You need to do this to ensure tasker applies the changes.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I've been in and out of Tasker many times and I just tried it again, but it still vibrates when there's a notification.

I have both Vibrate On Notify and Vibrate On Ringer set to Off.

Appreciate your help.

If you have Tasker disabled, does this still happen?

Yes, vibrate is turned all the way up for notifications, so it happens when Tasker is disabled. I'm wanting Tasker to disable vibration like it disables the sound, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Why don't turn on Silent mode? Action>Audio>Silent Mode>On

Wouldn't turning on Silent mode mute phone calls? Look at the title of this thread :-)

Another option would be.....

There is a profile on the wiki called "emergency call " (or something close to that) this will allow you to put the phone on silent and still allow you to select the phone numbers that will ring.  This will allow you to filter out unwanted calls as well..

Thanks for the suggestion, but I really need all calls to be able to come through, since I don't want to have to manually add all of my contacts' numbers. Also, one of the biggest reasons I want my phone to ring at night is that if my home security system goes off (whether I'm at home or away on a trip) the monitoring station calls me (and that's one call I *don't* want to miss!).

Have notifications always caused the phone to vibrate with the notification? Is it related to setting notification volume to 0?

An alternative to turning volume to 0 is to change the notification ringtone to a silent ringtone. This is necessary on some phones because the ringer and notification volumes tied together.

No, it's a separate setting on the phone. In Settings->Sound->Vibration Intensity there are three settings:

- Ringtone
- Notification
- Vibrate on screen tap

If I turn the Notification intensity to 0, then it doesn't vibrate when I get notifications. But when I leave it at full, setting Vibrate On Notify in Tasker does not stop it from vibrating.

Oh, then you could try a profile with context: event>phone>phone ringing and Disable Silent mode

Changing silent mode once the phone is ringing does not affect the current call. So that isn't an option.

Tasker can not override the phone's vibrate settings in this case. If you are rooted, you might be able to simulate selecting settings and navigating to your notification vibrate setting and change the setting. Search this group for simulating taps.
Another alternative is to leave the phone's notification vibrate setting off and set up tasker to detect when a notification occurs and have tasker perform the vibrate for notifications. Then you could decide if and when it vibrates. Search the group for detecting notifications.

I would recommend that you consider not trying to control the notification sound volume as this setting is often controlled by other apps. A more reliable method of ensuring that the notification sound is muted is to change the notification ringtone to a "silent" ringtone. When you want a notification tone, change the ringtone back to your default ringtone.

Oke, well, then after disabling silent mode just play a ringtone sound?

Check your phone's list of ringtones. Many phones have a ringtone named "silent" or something similar. If you can't find one on your phone search the web and you will find one you can download.
